CANDY BOX saved ground ou the first turn and, sprinting into the lead in the first quarter, held on gamely in the final drive and just lasted long enough to win. BAYHEAD was well up in closest pur-Miit for the entire way and would have won but for being forced to go wide on the turns. BOB HENSLEY finished fast and gamely through tho stretch. QUARTERMASTER propped at the start, but closed a big gap in the first .three-eighths and, taking the lead in the stretch, held .TAMES DOCKERY safe in the final drive. JAMES DOCKERY was in trouble during the early running, but came fast when clear in the stretch. FLORENCE ROBERTS was well up for the entire race. MARIA C. lost much ground on the stretch turn. INLAN and BACK I5AY tired badly. MORRISTOWN showed high speed and set a fast pace for the going, but tired in the stretch. SAMUEL R. MEYER dropped back in the first half, then moved np fast, but finally tired in the stretch drive. RALPH suffered keenly from interference just before the stretch turn was reached and was forced to go wido but, finishing gamely, drew out decisively in the last eighth. HODGE was kept well up for the entire race and finished fast and gamely. BRINGHURST showed the most early speed and set a fast pace, but his weight told in the going and he tired badly in the last eighth. BRONZEWING closed a big gap in the stretch. VREELAND was forced back on tin- first turn and, coming fast in the stretch, almost got up. DUQUESNE, away fonyardiy. was taken Siack and restrained for the first quarter and was forced to turn wide into the stretch, then finished fastest of all. WINTERGREEN ran fairly well.
