CORCYRAS MIDDLE PARK PLATE RACE. The Second October fixture at Newmarket wound up in magnificent autumn weather vesterday. says London Sportsman of October IS. The conditions really left nothiiig to be desired, but the results of most of the races were contrary to expectations aud were more in favor of the bookmaker than the backer. Partisanship between Stornbwav and Cnrevra in the Middle Park Plate ran high, .first one and then the other -being favorite. Both had been highlv tried and their respective trainers were equally sanguine. Stornoway had rather better public" form than Lord Londonderrys colt, therefore he had just the market call at tlag Hall, albeit there was onlv a fractional -difference between them. Pereival Keenes victory on Thursday seemed to have enhanced the prospects of his half brother, for the pair had recently hecu galloping together and the two-year-old bad come out with Hying colors on many occasions. The Middle Park Plate has often decided which is the seasons best two-year-old. Matters were different this year, as The Tetrarch was not entered. Corcyra and Stornoway therefore had to battle it ont between them, and Lord Londonderrys youngster, which created a favorable impression, ut Ponenster, came through triumphant. He did not move off from the gate as smartly as Stornoway, which at the Bushes was racing freely In Frank Woottons hands, and was running on a tight rein. Corcyra moved up to him at the top of Bushes Hill, where Manor spurted his mount, and secured first run on his rival half way down the descent. Ride as he would, Frank Wootton on Stornoway could never get to Corcyra again, the son of Polymelus securing a decisive victory. One is happy to congratulate Lord Londonderry upon the possession of a good horse, and one that promises to make up into a top sawyer as a threeryear-01d. His was unquestionably the most popular victory of the whole week, both Lord and Lady Londonderry coming in for much congratulation. Kennymore, which was a fair third behind Corcyra and Stornoway, was making his bow to public life, and right well did the half-brother to Sarcelle run. Like his sire, John oGaunt, he is framed on a big scale, though he has been given plenty of time in which to develop and grow to his frame.
