BAYHEAD began slowly but, running well in the sticky going, came fast around the last turn and drew out into a good lead in the stretch. DECATHLON suffered from interference in the early running, but came with a rush in the last quarter into a close up second. BULGARIAN was well up most of the way, but tired after taking the lead in the stretch. MONSTONE ran fairly well. THE GANDER "set the pace to the stretch and quit in the- last eighth. BUCK KEENON began slowly, but had clear going from the start and. moving up fast after going the first quarter; secured the lead before rounding into the stretch and held SOSIUS safe through the stretch. The latter was repeatedly in a jani and could not overhaul BUCK -KEENON when clear in the stretch. MOCKERY ran fairly well and was best of the others. OCEAN QUEEN, hard, ridden all the way and saving much ground on the turns, stood the final drive gamely and just lasted long enough to win. GARNEAU moved up with a great rush In the stretch after closing a big gap, but tired a trifle in the final strides. DYNAMITE began slowly, but loomed up menacingly on the stretch turn, only to tiro near the end. COPPERTOAVN set the pace to the stretch, but lost much ground by being taken wide on the last turn.
