THE TETRARCHS APPEARANCE. A recent number of the Bloodstock Breeders Review, published in England, contains a most interesting article from the pen of The Tetrarchs breeder. Sir. Kennedy, dealing with the colts blood, and explaining how It was that he came to try and restore the fortunes of the decaying Herod line to which The Tetrach belongs by importing, first. The Victory, and then Roi Hcrode into Ireland. Koi Herode got The Tetrarch out of Vahren In his first season at the Straffan Stud. The article is embellished by a wonderfully good photograph of The Tetrarch, which shows most clearly all the quaint light-colored blotches on his iron gray coat; also excellent likenesses of Roi Herodo and Vahren. As showing the uncertainty of exactly what color a foal may become, It is Interesting to note Mr. Kennedvs remark that The Tetrarch was foaled a chestnut, and soon developed the black blotches or spots which one often sees In chestnut descendants of Birdcatcher. When the foal cast his coat tho black blotches became quite light colored and his permanent coat iron gray. Sir. Kennedy attributes the merit of The Tetrarch to his inbreeding to Tbormanby and the latters dam, Alice Hawthorn.
