TIMELY GOSSIP FROM KENTUCKY. Louisville, Ky., October S. Society will figure prominently at the New Louisville Jockey Clubs track during the meeting which begins tomorrow. The club house is resplendent, surrounded by its llower beds tilled with beautiful autumn plants. President Charles F. Grainger and Manager M. J. Winn have always exerted themselves to further the social side of racing. Those who have secured boxes for the opening day include Gov. J. I?. McCreary, Mayor J. II . Duschemeyer. J. J. Douglas, J. W. Schorr, Marion E. Taylor, Lawrence Jones. Charles F. Grainger, .Matt. J. Winn, Charles T. Dallard, Baylor 0. llichmau. J. II. Caperton. John Churchill, Labau Phelps, Dr. Charles G. Lucas, George J. Long, W. K. Applegate, John G. Harris. I. P. Barnard, Charles F. Price, David A. Keller, Pendleton C. Deckley and Gen. W. D. Haldenian. The latter and Mr. Grainger are members of the Kentucky State Racing Commission and of the remaining three members of that body Judge Allie G. Young and T. H. Talbot are sure- to be on hand for the owning. The latter will represent the commission as steward. J. W. May has bought from John G. Greener the smart two-year-old Martinos. It was reported that J. J. Markklein of Cincinnati and J. C. Calm of St. Louis, had purchased this gelding in partnership, hut it turns out that May had an option on the youngster and concluded to exercise it. Dan Lehan has sent Dronzwlug to his farm in this county, where she will remain turned out until next February. He believes that with this rest the filly, which last spring won the Dlue Grass .Stakes, the Ashland and Kentucky Oaks of last spring, will stand training next year and he looks for her to prove one of the greatest four-year-olds of her sex that 1ms raced In Kentucky since the days of such performers as Los Angeles, Huntress and the peerless Yo Tainblen. Lehan has his old gelding. Sir Cates-by. going along in his best form in training. He did not start him in the Ixniisville Cup last Saturday at Douglas Park, but if the track is soft he will send him to the post in the St. Legcr Handicap at the Downs next week and also attempt to win for the second time the Latouia Cup with this son of Sir Dixon. Lehan now lpts up at the Downs four likely yearlings. He recently bought from M. II. Ilarued the bay colt by Gold Heels Pouting, a brother to Mar tine H. The others are a chestnut colt by Datts Edith Rilley. by Cayuga; chestnut filly by " -lwart Stormy Petrel, and a chestnut filly by Aylmar Leonara J. None of the yearlings In the stable of George J. Long nave as yet been tried out. Trainer Walter Hopkins has succeeded lu breaking them all. but lie sain yesterday that they would not be given any speed trials until the last of this month. The e!ht colts of this age now at the Downs In the Long stable are in appearance a most promising lot.
