IANKE STABLE DOING WELL AS ON PREVIOUS DAY, CALIFORNIAN SCORES A DOUBLE AT CHURCHILL DOWNS. His Colors Carried to Victory On This Occasion by Billy Joe and Wilhitc Jockey Murphy Pilots Three Winners. Louisville, Ky., October 15. W. G. Yankes success continues anil that astute owner is said to have cleaned up handsomely this afternoon when members of his establishment again scored a double at liberal odds. Incidentally the stable jockey, 1. Murphy, came into the limelight during the day by bringing three of ids six mounts to victory. Pcarce and Baker also scored a double with Joe Deibold and ltoyal Tea. It marked the first victory for this rirm on a Kentucky track. Jockey Goose also starred during the day by landing a pair of winners, lils good handling of Grecian was directly responsible for that Madden lillys success over Pan Maid in the fourth race. The race engaged some smart juveniles at live and a half furlongs, with Pit -Jr.- considered as the most probable winner and liackft extensively. lie ran an exceedingly dull race .and was never a formidable factor. Continued severe weather caused a falling off in the attendance and volume of betting. The track was in the worst shape that it has been in during the present meeting. There is no indication of a letup tonight in the bad weather and it is practically certain that the track will contiuue. bad for i the remaining days of the racing here. Favorites I fared well, four scoring. George M. llendnes crack racer, Great Britain, is reported on the ailing list and probably will not be raced again tins season. The program book lor the lirst nine days of the Latonia racing was distributed to owners here today and met with general approval. J. 0. Keene shipped to I.atonia today the horses that he intends to race there for Senator J. X. Camden. Jockey Small cancelled all his riding engagements fcr the afternoon after the second race, iu which he was struck in the eye with a clod of earth while astride Christie. Jockey Neylon was foreed to refrain from riding today on account of a split linger. J. S. Hawkins will ship Chalmers. George Stoll v-Muijlk 0Tay to Latonla tomorrow. iBr veteran racer. Merrick wound up his turf jHr yesterday, according to J. C. Milam, who HPPF ship him to Lexington tomorrow and re-- tire him. to a life of ease. The horse has been a big winner for Mr. Milam, who now has only two other horses iu training, Morristown and Christie, the latter owned by Alex. Laliold. Both hones will lie turned over to Jack Baker to be handled during the Latonia meeting, while trainer Milam busies himself in breaking the eleven yearlings that ho and Fred Levy, a local businesss man, will raca next season. Hart Newman will ship Pan Zareta and three other racers he has been campaigning this summer to Juarez at the close of the Louisville meeting. Fred Auerhack. general manager of the Charleston track, scut word here today that he will arrive tomorrow from Cincinnati and announce the full plans for the racing at Palmetto Park this season. Eugene Klrod has completed arrangements for the special express train to take the horses at the close of the Latonia meeting direct to tiie Jockey Club Juarez course for the coming winter meeting there. This train will go by express, leaving Monday, Novemler 0, at 12 oclock, and arriving at Kl Paso, Tex., at 1:30 oclock Thursday afternoon. November 1-. The train will be routed over the L. and X. to Memphis, over the Missouri Pacific to Toxarkana and over the Texas and Pacific to LI Paso. The horse cars are seventy feet in length and with three doors. The other cars on the train will consist of two sleepers, one dining car, one day coach and one baggage car.
