, H0NEYW00D COMING OVER TO NEVADA. Some months ago. in furtherance of his determina- I tion to make his Nevada establishment a breeding farm of the first "-auk. Ceorgc W. Wiiigfield eon- eluded to buy an Knglisii stallion of high class rae- ing credentials and ultra-fashionable breeding. On consideration, last years St. Leger winner. Black Jester was selected and negotiations for his purchase opened. His owner, J. B. Joel, was willing to sell and, after some correspondence, the price of $.5T .00o was agreed upon and the deal was closed subject to the condition that the colt was to pass through a veterinary examination satisfactorily. In a letter Mr. Joel said that but for the conditions brought abf»ut bv the war, he would never have considered an offer of less than 00,000 for Black Jester. Mr. Wiiigfield sent his ageut. Mr. M. P. Cuillianis and his veterinary. Dr. Bamberger, to England to conduct the examination agreed u|K n. as well as to purchase other horses for the Neada turfmen and breeder. Evidently Black Jester failed to pass the tests agreed upon, for the deal fell through and Mr. liuilliams instead of taking the colt, purchased the le.-s noted colt Ilonevwoo.1 ironi Sol Joel for the reported price of :.0OO guineas, or ."..C0 . Both i-olts are sons of Polyinelus. so the only difference In breeding conies through their dams. Black Jester Icing from Absurdity, by Melton, while llonoywood is from Honey Bird, by Friars Balsam, and is probably the better-bred horse of the two. In racing merit Black Jester was superior to Honey wood, but the latter was a good racer and won the Catcrham Plate. Nottinghamshire Foail Stakes. Indoubtedly he should prove an acquisition of groat value and is probably now on his long journey to his future home. His dam. Honey Bird, dieil the year he was foaled. She was a half-sister to the Cesarewitch winn:T Wargrave. as well as to Maid of the Mint, dam of the Epsoni Herby winner Spearmint.
