Another whose hirsts will campaign in Kentucky this year is A. K. Maconiber. a wealthy young Call fornian. who hoaght last fall in England from J. B. Joel, three three-year-olds and thirteen two-fear obis, which are counted the best single collection of thoroughbreds for racing purposes to have crossed the Atlantic in many years. Jennings not long ago told a friend from I.oington. who stopped at the South Carolina metropolis to see him and his horses, that he has no doubt that Mr. Maconiber will realize his hope far the development of a great stock horse out .f this string. It may be that the slashing bay colt Star Hawk, which has been picked to carry the new owners colors in the Kentucky Derby, will prove the most valuable of the collection for breeding purposes. He is a son of Sunstar and Sweet Pinch sister to Caaard and 0,000 was paid fir him by Mr. Maconiber. Hukill. for several years past, trained and drove trotlers. but he is not lacking in experience with the runners. Howard Oofs, who trained the J. Hal Wood ford racers for several years, has a string of twenty-seven, including fourteen English two-year olds, which are to run in his name and which are keeping him busy at the local track. James Stevens will come to the track Meaday with four horses, including Wadsworths Lust. Thomas C. McDowell is confined to his home with la grippe. J. W. Parrish lias secured Midway as the aasae for the two-year-old chestnut colt by Rallot Thirty-Third dam of Path horn. Midway is the name of the town on the outskirts of which Par rish has a fine home. Midway is half-way between Lexington and Frankfort, in Woodford County, "the asparagus bed of Kentucky" as Senator Joe Black -burn calls it. Midway was bred by Clay Blathers and was the star of their sale at Tattersalls iu September. Parrish paid 83.009 for him. Be is eligible to the local Breders Futurity and to the Futurity.
