00TS, ENGLISH YOUNGSTERS FOURTEEN IMPORTED TWO-YEAR-OLDS OF PROMISE IN THE BAND. An Expert Prefers a Son of Radium, but the Owner | Favors a Colt by Carpathian . as the Best. Lexington. Ky.. February 14. — The tmuttt* head | of English-bred bloodstock which were purchased at Newmarket by Mr. Howard Oots last autumn are ii" w quartered at the local course and are just beginning to show the good effects of the treatment | whit h tluy have received since their arrival in this country. The Oots importations comprise eleven colts and three fillies and. taken as a whole, there is not a bad looking or a poorljr bred one among them. Of course, they arc not out of Derby or Grand Prix winners. Ink the blood is there just the same ami out of tlu- number will be developed some winners of the best class, especially as it is Mr. Oots an-n mined intention to give these youngsters plenty of time to become thoroughly acclimatized. Here is a list of Mr. Oots importations: A tremendously big fellow is the chestnut son of I.langibliy — Princess Sterling, by Florizel II.. she out of the flying Sterling Balm, half-sister to t!ie French Two Thousand Guineas winner. Ouadi Haifa. The son of Llangibhy has attained to such Matterhorn proportions that it is doubtful if he can be got to tin- i»ist this year, lint these Llangibbys Improve with time, as witness tin- performances of the Jockey Club Slakes winner l.anius. Bather on the small side is the half-brother, by Polyinelus. to the Wattes. Stakes winner. Colon"! Vennie, but a fine colt indeed, and nowadays every one expects a winner by Polymelus. and this smart chestnut should prove no exception to the rule. St. Aniants chestnut sou is aaothec which should have a bright future before him as a race horse, and is out of Dora, by tyllene. from HeUoacene, dam of many winners, and half-sister to Napoli, dam ■ i l.aveiin. Orvoito. Mr. Haggins Kupallo and Penza, dam of the Australian champion sire. Poeitano. 1he next dam is the famous Sunshine, by Thormau-l.y. grandain of Peep oDay. This St. Simon-Bend or lilend has. in the past, been productive of each great race horses as Ormonde. Sceptre. Zinfaudol and others, so thai it is only reasonable to suppose that Doras aoa will earn distinction on the race course and also in after life as a stallion. Due of the best of the band is the sturdy bay by Thrush— Lusohiia. sister to St. Oswald, by St. Simon. Thrush was .„i real good sort himself and a successful sire ami a well bred one besides being by Missel Thrush, sun of Orinc. out of a daughter of Charilvrt. son of Ill . rmanby illerodi. This time positions are reversed and it is Bend Or onto St. Simon, and this cross is responsible for the production of P..minern. winner of three of Englands " lass;, s last year. I.uscinias son has more bone to his aches than any youngster I have seen for many a day. just one of the sort which can be relied upon to take the rough with the smooth and come up smiling every time. Perhaps the most taking colt of all is the brown son of Kadium ami Macaroon, by Marco, already named Butterscotch. Radium 1 saw finish a good -ei..]|,l to The White Knight for the Ascot Gold Cup ■ if Puis mil- of ti.e handsomest horses alive anil certain lo make a success in the stud, and the blood of Marco iMstcnem should nick well with him. •Specialty as this Marco. strain is backed up by St Fiusqiiin. sin- . [ st. Rosalie, which is half-date* to l he St. I.eger winner, Dor teles. Besides his racing prospects this colt is quite will enough broil and good enough looking to make some one a real good stud borxe in days to come. There is much to like about the Marajax. a bay. from Divla nful. by Prince Hamilton, and anyone Wl vcr saw Flying Pox need not be told that this roll is chaw akin to him. anil when he- has had tine-to till out a bit you can take my word tor il. then-will in- f,-w better k okina horses In training. Marajax himself was no si h as a race horse, winning a Manchester Cup and Breeders- St. Legor. and is out of Isonomys daughter. Mar Seatoa, from Marie Stuart, winner of the Si. Leger, by Scottish Chief. Disdainful is already the dam of the winner Duchess Christine and her dam is I.ady Sneerwell. Cheshire Cat*! dam, by Macbeath, son of Macaroni, and the family is the same from which come St. Simon anil Dime. Indeed, this - a pedigree hard to beat, and this colt at ail events should command respect, i only on account of his Mood lines. So far as I am aware, Mr. Oota chestnut is the only Uii Herode which has so far been brought act ss the Atlantic, and a speedy looking customer he is. out of Ellen Graeme, by Tarporley. a St. Simon horse, which could race to some purpose him-M-lf. and Ellen Graeme is a member of the productive Manganese branch f the I.ayton Barb line. This colt i certainly framed on speedy lines and ma. be. if his legs stand him. able to stay as well. Mr dots is much enamoured of a bay son of Carpathian, balf-brother by Isinglass, to Lemberg and Bayard but, for my part, 1 prefer some of the others. However, differences of opinion make horse racing and 1 sincerely trust Mr. Oots goad opinion will -!i rtly be verified. The rest of the colts are i!! soin.-i. well-grown youngsters, some of- which are certain to win distinction • n the race course. Of the ■Hies, my preference is for the brown daughter of that sturdy race horse. The White Knight, twice a winner of the Ascot Cold Cup and i phenomenal weight carrier besides. 1 do not know but that the may be the beat of ihe entire string. Iiish-bi-ed. a real St. Simon in conformation, by .. rhampion race horse out of Ballara. a daughter • -t that steam engine. Eager, one of the fastest horse-, that ever trod the English turf, a beautifully ba Kneed filly, -in- surely ought to race. Anyway, bet value for the paddock i-- at uoce obvious. By the way. Mr. dots coafiraaa my suspicions thai the British breeders of bloodstock are retaining i of the fillies, however willing tluy may be to sacrifice tin- colts, knowing well that better days arc sure lo follow, ami il goes without saying that these braadurs will reap tin- benefits of their sagacity. The brown daughter of Cherry Tree Zohara is rum a splendid bioking Oily, Mr. Oota pick, in fact, and it bj worth recording that her dam fetched, ib-spite existing conditions, last December, the good round sum of 1.490 guineas at public auction. Zohara is by the Australian champion. Carbine, out of Zobeyde. by St. Simon, ami here is another filly j grace any man- stud. The third filly i- a bay by John nCaunt. siro ■ of Swynford and second to St. Amant in the Derby. ami sire of any Dumber of goad wi *s, which i number may be Increased the first time Zohara -lilly goes to the post The entire band is: Chestnut colt by Llangibby — Princess Sterling, bj II ilizel II. Chestnut colt by Polymelus— Shy Missic. by Ayr shire. Chestnut coll b Si. Amant -Dora, by C.vllcne. Bai coll by Thrush- Luscinta, by St. Simon Butterscotch, hr. c. by Kadium — Macaroon, by Ma i co. Bay colt by Marajax— Disdainful, by Prince Harap Cm. Chestnut colt by Roi Herode— Ellen Creame, by Tarporley. Parr. br. .-. by TroutueCB Parchment, by Si. Ii us|iiiu. Chestnut colt by Fugleman N. It. A., by Peace of Clubs Bav colt by Criflel— Miphauzi. by Uaeburii. Bav colt bv Carpathian — Wild Gean. bv Sainfoin. Brown filly b.v The White Knight— Ballara. by Eager.
