MOBILES PROPOSED RACE MEETING. The proposed race meeting al Mobile. Ala., should not be held. The term scheduled is from March Ii o 16. The auspices under which it is to be Held are bad in a good many wavs. I know and like Mobile well, and 1 know that the merchants who have been cajoled into supporting the race meeting for Mobiles good, are deeply interested in Mobiles good and not Mobiles bail. They have been deceived. W. Bickers, the manager of the meeting, is a ruled iff man. Arthur Elrod. who is proposed as secretary of the meeting is not dependable or authoritative, and lack Sheehan. who is to have a hand in what be! ting there would be. is absolutely unreliable. It wouttnt be fair to get a crowd of sportively inclined and undefended folks from the Alabama countryside against such a combination. .Mobile is getting t" be a big. nice town. It shouldnt be punished by apart that is not sporl. Bickers. Sheehan St Co.. with race horses ami betting in their control, wouldnt aid Mobiles progress, or tin- general good of racing. Pat Dunne, a high-class man. will not serve as judge. He is alMive that sort of thing in that son of way. The technicalities aliout the meeting are of secondary Importance. They would affect horsemen sadly, however. Its the good of Mobile and the general health of racing that is Involved. The Mobile meeting is impossible. Declare it off. F. H. BRLNELL.
