CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF. Crabs shows much soreness in his work at New Orleans. W. B. Mam ell of Chicago has been definitely engaged as clerk of the scales and associate judge for the Hot Springs meeting. Cecil Brabazon. Irish amateur rider, who has been in this country since last summer, received a cable offering him the mount on Jacobite in the substitute tor the Liverpool Grand National in Fngland. .Mr. Brabaaoa, while he would like to ride again in this, the most coveted of steeplechase events, declined, and will confine his riding efforts to this side of the Atlantic for the present. Sti-eplechasing this year promises to be an important part of the racing scheme and at this time the prospect is that the cross-country division will lie both a large and a high-class one.
