NOTES OF THE TURF FROM OTHER LANDS. The jockeys Milton Henry and A. Woodland have ■ left France for Italy, where they have riding engagements at the Koine meeting. "Auteun-Longchamp" states that the entire , staff of Baron M. do Rothschilds French stable . has joined the army and that the baron himself is acting as an officer interpreter attached to the English staff. Tom Cannon, the famous jockey and trainer, who 1 has been laid up with a severe attack of rheumatism, is better. His friend. Chris Waller, daily calls at his residence at Stockbridge and takes him for a drive. Mr. Frank Jay Qonld, the prominent American owner, is now at Maisons i.allitte. occupying himself in watching tte work of his youngsters l.v tte • stallion Combourg his first crop, which are being trained bj l.ynhaiu. J. P.. Joel has retained only a half dozen of his 1 two-year-olds, most of the others having been sold to go to America, but four of these are quite half-brother to Sun Yat. good -looking, namely, a bv Sunstar. a colt similarly related to Snnstar. by Sunflower IE. a colt by Sunflower II. , out of the America n -bred Fringilla, and a colt by Sunstar out of Verne. The ..nee high-class sprinter. The P.oss. by Orby, has gone to the stud in Ireland, and is appointed to stand at Oarlow Cross, in County Meath. The 6 l;..ss WOH several good races, including the Bat-thyany Plate. Lincoln and Uosforth Park caps, • Beaufort Handicap, etc. lie is the second son of ! Orby to ci to the stud. Where he was preceded by Flying Orb. Oeorge Blackwell is in future to devote his attention to farming and contemplates retiring from i the profession of trainer. In the latter calling ; lie met with no small amount of success. Among 5 the horses that he prepared were the "triple crown" winner of 1903, Rock Sand, Chaleureux. Flotsam anil Pharisee. Intil a year ago George Blackwell had charge of many of Mr. C. S. Newton and Mr. Lionel Montagus horses. Perhaps the most remarkable feature of the I week-end meeting at Oatwick on February 20 and I 21 was the victories of two Grand National winners Sunloch and Ally Sloper iHith starting at t outside prices. Ally Sloper jumped cleanly and with more speed than did Lord Marcus and to this -, he no doubt owed his victory. His success will make the Racecourse Association Steeplechase more e lateresting than ever. In the latter event Lord ,1 Marcus will be meeting his victor on eight pounds more favorable terms.
