March 17. — The four steeplechase stakes that are to be decided at the Belmont Park spring meeting have all filled well, and the three that have been renewed show a gratifying increase in nominations over those of last season. These renewals include the Grand National, the International and the New York. The Grand National received forty nominations against thirty-five last year: the International fifty-three this year and forty -four last: and the New York lias a" total of fifty-one against a total of thirty-eight for 1915. The new steeplechase is known as the Meadow Drook Steeplechase Handicap, and it was the most popular of the quartette, receiving fifty -five nominations. Edward D. McLean, a comparative newcomer to racing, is a liberal nominator, and Bonny Laddie, his recent purchase, has been named for all four of the stakes. The others nominated from his string are Extern. Rhomb and Faker. Joseph E. Widener, vp , always cuts an important figure in the cross-country sport, will lie represented by Compliment, Relluf, Skibbereen, El Dart and Expectation. These have been nominated UberaBy. Little Nearer has been put to jumping and will carry the colors of C. H. Dobbins in these stakes. Mortimer L. Schiffs Northwood Stable has named Dill Dudley. Chivalry and Northwood for all four of the fixtures, and August Dolmont is to be represented by Top Hat. a half-brother to Tracery and Mission. The Greontree Stable has two new importations in the nominations. Den Wyvis and Nenuphar. Others named from this stable are Cherry Malotte. Al Reeves. Marcellinus, Syosset II. and Royal Amber. Harry East, of the Piping Rock Club, is a new-come in the nomination list. He will be represented b.v two importations. Minton China, a son of Spearmint- Simonsw orth. and Loch Earn, a son of Loehryan— Joyful Bird. Arichibahl Darklie is a liberal nominator, naming four for each of the stakes. They are Dlanken-burg, Croasnboo, Royal and Bowler. II. W. Sage is als i well represented with Martian, Debeto, Rae- coon. Protector and the imported horse, Drother- stone, as his nominations. Thomas Hitchcock has named Kintore. Hustler, Brentwood and BorrentO. Joseph E. Davis is rep- resented by Vifir, winner of the Harbor Hill of last year: White Metal and Alledo. Mrs. 1. Ambrose Chirk has Distance. Hibler and Ambrosias named for each of the fixtures, while Mr. Clark is represented by Lysander and Kahab. Gwynn R. Tompkins has nominated Watertowa in his own name, while for E. M. Weld lie has named Wold-hip: for ;. Temple iwathmey. Rupii a ; ami for W. L. Crosby, Ranwny. M. L. Schwartz is represented by M. J. Shannon, while his brother. A. C. Schwartz, has Day Streak as his hope. Herbert L. Draft will have Razzano. Superhuman and Garter Buckle to race for him. William Linker is represented by Hydroplane, and M. Dahlias Kingcash. while James Dark has named Duke of Duluth in the Meadow Drook, dodging the other three fixtures. Glen Diddle Farm is represented by Dons Asin- Oram, J. C. Bwalt by Cactus Dud. Emerald Isle II. and Maybud II.. the last two imported jumpers. Harry La Montague has Swish, a jumper that raced will for Thomas Hitchcock, and his others are Indiscreet and Traditioner.
