CRIMPER PROBABLY A HIGH-CLASS COLT. Notwithstanding some published reports to the contrary, the only one of the big band of Duryea horses, which lauded in New York a few days ago, that has ever started in a race, is the three-year-ohl colt Crimper by Maintenon Frizette. by Hamburg. CrimiM-r started in four races in England last year and. without winning any of them, ran so well that in such Derby forecasts as were indulged in by English writers last winter and early this spring, prior to Mr. Duryeas death, he was frequently mentioned among those deemed to have a chance in the big race. His first start was in the Frincess Plate at Newmarket. July 2. in which he ran unplaced to Cretan Swell, Marcus and Analogy. At the same track, July 13. lie ran third to Eos and Nas;ovian in the Soltykoff Stakes, fifteen finishing behind him. Nassovian is a Desmond colt belonging to John Sanford, for which he gave a high price when a yearling. In the New-Coventry Stakes, at Newmarket, July 21, he ran third to Marcus and Figaro, beaten a head and a half length. This time Nassovian was fourth and Eos fifth. By the record Marcus and Figaro were two of the liest colts in England last year, so this race made Crimper out to lie about as good as any of them. In the Hibury Club Stakes. September 15. he wis unplaced to the two flying fillies Telephone Girl and Fifinella, he finishing fifth from a bad start and in front of Marcus, tlarissiinus, Nassovian and the subsequent Middle Fark Plate winner Argos. Altogether his racing was such as to suggest that whoever buys him at the Duryea sale, will secure a priz.! of the first order. His dam. Frizette, was bred by James R. Keene and is by Hamburg from the St. Simon mare Onduleo. She was a good racer and a stake winner for Mr. Keene.
