GOVERNOR COMMENDS KENTUCKY RACING. Lexington. Ky., April 15.— Thomas Griffin, who is now living at Oakland. California, and is a member of the Golden Gate Thoroughbred Breeders Association, this week wrote to a IiCxington friend for a copy of Kentuckys racing law and at the same time requested an expression from Governor A. 0. Stanley as to whether or not the law is giving satisfaction to the people of Kentucky. He stated that the Golden Gate Breeders Association, of which Charles W. Clark is president, and J. C. Nealon secretary, will make an effort for the adoption of the Kentucky law by the California legislature. A copy of the law was forwarded to him and Governor Stanley answered his inquiry, in a letter to the Golden Gate Thoroughbred Dreeders Association, as follows: "It gives me pleasure to say that the turf in Kentucky under the present law and through the administration of the Kentucky State Racing Conv-missiou is in a most flourishing condition. "It is the sentiment of the people who are engaged in breeding and racing horses in Kentucky that the passage of this law was the salvation of the vast breeding industry and the great sport of racing in this state. .As conducted under the administration of our state racing commission, the sjMirt in Kentucky is clean and the people who patronize it are well satisfied. "This law became effective in April. 1900, and during the ten years of its operation no amendment to it has been offered." In the course of his letter Griffin said the sentiment iu California is growing stronger for racing and that the Golden Gate Thoroughbred Breeders Association will have workers in each of the senatorial and legislative districts. He was frank to say that unless the Kentucky law was satisfactory to the | eople of this state, they would not want it in California, but that if it had proved so after ten years* fatal, they would want it. Therefore it goes without saying that Governor Stanleys letter will have great weight in determining action upon the measure to be introduced in California. I
