HORSES CROWDING INTO LEXINGTON. Livingston Horses Much Admired — Big Smoke Reported to Have Gone Wrong at Louisville. Lexington, Ky.. April 18. — A carload of horses from Hot Springs arrived nt the local track today. William M. Cain brought Hard Ball and Wild Bear. John Reed brought Bonanza, Bean Spiller. Lachis. Tobacco Box and Taper Tip, C. W. Gasstys six were also in the car. The Jefferson Livingston stable was exercised this morning and drew favorable expressions from the visitors and work watchers. It was the first time trainer Herman Brandt has asked anything of them since their arrival from Louisville. The entire eleven galloped three -quarters in from 1:16 to 1:18. Julia. Royal II. and Colonel Vennio, the stable hopes for the Kentucky Derby, were particularly well liked. The horses all appeared to be in fit condition. The best move of the morning was by Star Jasmine, from T. C. McDowells stable, a mile in 1:41%. T. I. Hayes Kentucky Derby winner. Donerail. appears to be back to his three -year -old form. Sen. J. X. Camdens One Step worked a mile in 1:42. -Senator Camden, who returned home from Hot Springs Saturday, had intended to be present today, but was detained at his farm. He will be at the track Friday morning, when the Kentucky State Racing Commission is to meet here. Secretary Sam Xuckols was here today receiving applications for licenses from trainers and jockeys. Embroidery, owned by A. B. Hancock, also an eligible to the Camden Handicap, and likewise trained by J. C. Milam, worked three-quarters in 1:10%. her owner having come over from Paris to witness the trial. John S. Wallace arrived today from Hot Springs and will be the entry clerk, as usual. Charles Bogau, agent for Charles W. Clark, of San Francisco, was at the track. Jockeys -Joe Kederis and Roy Urquhart. riders for Jefferson Livingston, came in from Louisville. Xews that trainer Will Wallace has decided to let up on the training of Big Smoke for the Kentucky Derby was received here today with expressions of regret.
