PIMLICO MEETING DRAWS GBEAT CB0WD GATHERS TO WITNESS SEVEN PLEASING CONTESTS. Sun King Proves an Easy Victor in the Steeplechase — Winners Easy to Pick — Jockey Bryant Suspended for Bough Biding. Baltimore. Md., May 1. — The spring meeting under the auspices of the Maryland Jockey Club was ushered in at the historic Pimlico course this afternoon under conditions that could hardly be improved upon. The card offered for the amusement of the racing devotees comprised seven races, with several allowance dashes and a steeplechase as the outstanding features. In the race over the sticks n small band accepted conditions and the result was gratifying to the public, as the well -supported choice. Sun King, was returned the winner in an easy manner over his opposition with Collector second and Mo third. One of the largest crowds ever seen at the course was on hand and society was well represented about the lawns and clubhouse enclosure. The public had a good line on the different starters and the majority of the winners were confidently supported. Among the clubhouse visitors for the opening were Mr. and Mrs. F. Ambrose Clark and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph E. Davis. They have taken a house in the Green Spring Valley and will entertain during the Pimlico season. Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Clark have gone into a sporting contest this seaison with two jumpers. Rusila being the Mrs. Davis representative and Distance that of Mrs. Clark. They are to direct the training aind racing of these two for the season, a victory is to count five points, second three and third two. Dr. Carey Grayson. President Wilsons physician, was a visitor from Washington, as were Edward Mitchell and W. C. Eustis. Archibald Barklie came over from Philadelphia amd Mr. and Mrs. Saige from Albany to see the Sage horses run in the steeplechase. Thomas Hitchcock started a two-year-old in the opening dash that is of American parentage and yet imported. He is Brother Jonathan, a son of Yankee and Sister Stella, foaled in France. He is the first imported two-year-old to be shown under silks this spring in the east and is rather an impressive youngster. Mr. Hitchcock was here to see him race. Star Gaze, belonging to Herbert L. Pratt picked up a nail at Havre de Grace and will be on the shelf for a short time. Robert Gaiylor will make the engagements for jockeys Keogli and Graves during the Pimlico meeting. The Only One. a two-year-old chestnut daughter of Ballot and Horizon, is a twin and R. F. Carman, her owner, has hopes that she will prove a thoroughly good filly in racing. Jockey Bryant, who rode Brotherstone. an imported horse in the steeplechase, was suspended for the rest of the meting for rough riding. Bryant was guilty of crowding Sun King on the first turn of the course and at other times through the running he bothered the other runners by steering a devious course.
