FALL RACING SCANTY IN ENGLAND. After mid-August, as at present arranged, the only meetings will be those at Newmarket. These are four in number, inclusive of the "Third Extra." the First October. Second October and the Houghton Meeting, but altogether they will provide only fifteen days racing for a period comprising exactly ninety weeks days, from August 14 to November 25 inclusive I. It is hoped by owners of race horses that facilities will be granted for the lidding of further meetings in the autumn outside Newmarket. Tin- idea is to have meetings in the north ami south on Fridays and Saturdays ttnly l in alternate wceka, excepting, of course, those weeks in which Newmarket is one. Autumn racing in the north, even on the limited scale proposed, would probably go s.un • way towards saving the situation for northern owners, trainers anil breeders. It would likewise be a boon to the south-country stables to have some further racing at one or auot iter of the privileged meetings, ant] it would at tin- same time ten. I to reduce the congestion of races at Newmarket. — London Sportsman.
