GREAT RACE HORSE ORNAMENT IS DEAD. The death of Ornament at the age of twenty -two years is reported from Lexington. He was a great rac ■ horse and a successful sire. He was probably the best three-year-old of 1H97. In that year he won the St. Louis Derby, Latonia Derby. Oakley Derby and the International Derby at Grosse Point track. Detroit, but was beaten by Typhoon in the Kentucky Derby. Among his other successes were both sdtions of the Double Event. Flatbush Stakes, l.rooklyn Handicap. Rrighton Handicap. Clark Stakes. Ilimyar Stakes and Twin City Handicap. In all he started in thirty three races, of which he won twenty and .977. Me was the sire of Kings Daughter. Kc.iucoup. Monfort. Princess Orna. Sheriff Hell. John Carroll and many other fast and staying horses; At times he was an unruly customer and cut up so badly while at the po*t for the Suburban Handicap, that it probably cost him that great race. He was by Order — Yictorine, by Ouuu-dugo.
