GENERAL NEWS NOTES OF THE DAY. From London yesterday a dispatch says: Two more leaders in the rebellion, whose execution was delaved bv Premier Asquiths undertaking that there would be no further executions until after li-irli-iment had debated John Dillons motion, have been put to death. They were James Connolly, one of the seven signers of the proclamation of the Irish republic, and John McDermott. Premier Asquith planned to continue to hold his conferences today with civil authorities at Dublin, with whom he conversed yesterday. A delegation of Dublin citizens is waiting to see the prime minister with a plea for lenient treatment of rebels deported to Eaglaad and a request that those iqioii whom onlv light punishment is inflicted be l*r-mittid to return to their families as soon as ]ios-sible. It was reported in Dublin that Premier Asquith would issue a proclamation within a few-days addressed to the Irish people. Says a dispatch from Columbus. N. Petitions for the recall of James Rolph, Jr., Mavor of San Francisco, were being circulated there yesterday by followers of Eugene E. Schmitz, former mayor, who was removed from office when indicted at the time of the so-called graft prosecution. He was an unsuccessful candidate for mayor at the last election. The recall iietitions enumerate as reasons for Rolphs recall aliout a dozeii specifications, including the charge that the mayor holds bis office illegally because of alleged eleetion frauds. The resignation of Dr. Clemens Dclbrueck, German minister of the interior and vice chancellor of the German Empire, has been officially announced, according to dispatches received at Copenhagen yesterday. Dr. Dclbrueck was charged with responsibility for failing to safeguard and see to the distribution of food supplies. His resignation was demaiuUd. according to one Berlin report, following the recent demonstration in which mobs smashed the shops of Berlin meat dealers. Several heavy German attacks near Fort Douau-mont and Thiaumont, northeast of Verdun, preceded bv the most violent bombardment, were repulsed with heavy losses, the French yielding not an inch, the French war office announced yesterday. On the west bank of the Meuse the French gained new ground near Hill 2S7 west of Hill 304, said the official statement.
