CHURCHILL DOWNS RACING NO OUTSTANDING FEATURE BUT WEATHER IS ENTICING AND ATTENDANCE GOOD. Blind Baggage Justifies Good Things Said of Him. — Conning Tower Runs Away from His Opponents — Kris Kringle Wins Again. Louisville. Ky., May 19.— E. R. Bradleys Blind Bats-gage, which figured in the Terrace Park wreck last year and barely emerged from that accident alive made good some of the claims advanced for him l»efore the accident to the effect that he was a high class racer, by the impressive fashion in which lie led home the good hand of three-year-olds that started in the fourth race at Churchill Downs today. He was benefitted vastly by getting away in a forward position but lie showed a high order of speed to sprint into a long lead at MM and make it a case of "hare and hounds" ultimately winning easily from John Jr.. with Faux-tol in third place. Cane Kuu was mostly to blame, for the faulty send-off as he acted fructiously at the post and when the barrier was released it found most of the contenders unprepared. Balmy weather again prevailed and track conditions were of the liest. resulting in excellent sport, though the program on the whole contained no outstanding features. Kris Kringle. a former winner at this meeting, figured in a strenuous duel with Charles Francis and got the verdict in the final stride. The ride that C. Hunt gave Coinniauretta. the outstanding favorite of the race, occasioned comment. Diamond and High Gear fought it out in the opener and finished as named. Sid Gilsey ran as if best in the race, but suffered from interference. A. L. Kirby took his first purse of the Kentucky season when Miss Declare romped home an easy winner in the second race over some good opposition, with Nobleman and May Bird noses apart and the next three similar distances away. In the Spokane Iurse. which, from a monetary standpoint, held first place on the card. Conning Tower made a show of the others and led for the entire race. Dr. Larrick taking second place and Solar Star just got up to beat Bars and Stars for third money. To accommodate owners stabled at Douglas Park and expedite the closing of entries. J. S. Wallace will be at Douglas lark each morning while the racing is on at Churchill Downs and accept entries there, to be telephoned to secretary Walter H. Iearce at the Downs. Owners likewise will be notified by Mr. Wallace at Douglas Park, in the event of an extra race. The losing time for entries at Douglas lark will be at 10 a. m.. while at Churchill Downs it will be 10:30. Scratches also can lie made witli Mr. Wallace at Douglas lark until 8:4.1 a. m. Scratch time at Churchill Downs is 9 a. in. Because of the failure to fill the races this morning, entries for tomorrow did not close until well along in the afternoon. George Odom sent a telegram here to John W. Schorr offering him 0,000 for the good colt Harry Kelly. Mr. Schorr wired back that the colt was not for sale. II. Weitzman and J. Duggan. both of Detroit, hnve purchased several youngsters from F. W. Belknap, which they intend racing on the Canadian tracks next summer. • As a result of the failure of the ,500 Consolation Derby race to fill yesterday, the surplus of 00 over the Oaks 1reliminary purse, which took its place will be added to several purses next week. John W. Schorr is negotiating for the purchase of Kgmont and Bed Cloud, owned by I. Musgrave. The horses were automatically suspended at Juarez with their owner, but if Musgrave can show a bona fide transfer of the horses they will be re-tored to good standing by stewards Breivogel, Ireland and Shelley. Work-outs over a fast track were: Big Smoke — Seven-eighths in 1:32%. Blue Jay — Three-quarters in 1:17. Borrow — Mile in 1:41%. Cardoim — Three-quarters in 1:10. Dash— Half mile in 51--..
