CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF. George Cornell, a well-known Toronto trainer, has lieen appointed official patrol judge by the Canadian Racing Associations. 1nder the regulations of the Canadian Racing Associations, entries at all tracks will close at the same hour. 11 oclock. This is an hour ahead of the old time at Woodbine and several other tracks. Charles Crews broodmare. Cannie Maid, by imported Cannie Boy. is dead and her foal by Wire In is lieing brought up on the bottle. He is marked just like his sire, and his owner will lie lucky if the colt has a fair share also of his sires speed. Senator R. A. Johnson of Laurel. Md.. and Mrs. Johnson are guests of General Manager Matt J. Winn and Mrs. Winn at Louisville during the Churchill Downs meeting. Senator Johnson is president of the Laurel track, of which Mr. Winn is manager. The investigation made by the stewards of the Churchill Downs track into the running of the seventh race last Saturday, in which Shyness made an unsatisfactory showing has l een dropped. Owner Clarence Huxtou explained the race of the mare to the satisfaction of the officials. The Calendar for May contains a list of 357 thoroughbreds imported to this country in 1915 and 1916. Obviously this is a contingent sufficient to cut a big figure in our racing and breeding. The horses six years old and over are nearly all broodmares and stallions for stud service and are forty-six in number. In the racing force there are now fifty nine three-year -olds and 160 two-year-olds. There are also fifty -nine now yearlings. The Knglish three-year-old. Faux-Col. by Valens. now in the stable of R. J. Mackenzie at Churchill Downs, is a fast colt and was timed a half mile in 46 seconds last week. He was offered to another Canadian owner In-fore he was acquired by Mr. Mackenzie. . Fan:; -Col finished in front of Star Hawk in a race in England last year and was second in his last race in Kngland to Morven. now in the band that trainer John Walters has in charge at Woodbine for George M. Heudrie of Hamilton.
