TORONTOS GREATEST RACING DAY AT HAND. The Kings Plate Down for Decision This Afternoon with a Small Field Contesting. Toronto, Ont., -May 19. — The fifty-sixth running of the Kings llate. one of the great features of tne Canadian turf, will 1m- featured by the Ontario Jockey hil for its opening at Woodbine lark tomorrow. The field programmed is one of the smallest named in years. There are six entered and three of them are to be couple*! as the Seagram entry. A Seagram horse has not finished first in the llate since 190S. when Seismic won. Mandarin, one of the Seagram entry, lias been working particularly well and it is freely predicted, by those who have watched the work of the different candidates, that he will win. Indi-catniis are that the track will lie fast. The other six races filled exceptionally well and there appears no lack of material up here this season. Beside the llate there are offered as additional attractions the Minto Selling Stakes, a dash of one mile and a sixteenth, with ,500 added. The Woodbine Steeplechase, two miles. ,000 added, and the William Muloch Cup, one mile ;uid a sixteenth. 00 added. For the closing race there are nineteen entered, six of which are on the "also eligible" list. Several of tin stables en route from Baltimore have been delayed by floods in northern New York and Pennsylvania. Among them are the horses of James Arthur. Ietcr Sheridan and W. B. Mizell. Henry McDaniel has decided to remain M the Canadian circuit lor the present and it is uossible that lie may purchase a couple of the Davies horses when they are sold by auction next week. Capt. W. F. 1resgrave was among the arrivals this morning. The string that lie brought to Canada this spring is one of the strongest that will race on the circuit. The local horses are backward, owing to the late spring, and it is this that is responsible for the small field in the Kings llate. C. K. Crew is confined to his home suffering from n slight attack of la grippe There is a scarcity of good riding material here and some jockeys of good class would do well here. A. Mott came on from Kentucky with the A. L. Austin stable. He will do the latters riding this year.
