1 ; 1 BELMONT PARK MEETING AT AN END. I Ivory Black Wins the Valuable Keene Memorial Stakes from Camp Fire and Tumbler. New York, June 14. — So well thought of were all • the contestants in the Keene Memorial, the stake | feature of the final day of racing at Belmont 1ark. that each had stable support and plenty of it. It was by far the most uncertain event of the meeting from a speculative view and it finally went to James Butlers Ivory Black, which led * from start to finish. It. T. Wilsons candidate. Camp Fire, struggled into second place, with the ; Harry Iayne Whitney crack. Tumbler, third. The others were beaten off and practically were never : contenders after the start. The send off was ] er- I feet and accomplished without delay. Ivory Black : dashed to the front so quickly that he was alone in the first sixteenth and held the dominating position to the end, under hand riding. Notter put in all he knew to get Tumbler up, but it was of no avail, as he could not head Camp Fire for second place. The race proved conclusively that Ivory Black is probably the best two-year-old shown so far in the east this year and, judging from his performance, it will take a good horse to beat him. Omar Khayyam, one of C. K. G. Billings English horses, was never dangerous. It was the first real test of one of the foreigners of good class against the liest of the domestic product. The racing scene shifts to Jamaica tomorrow, where the Excelsior Handicap will be the feature. Baybcrry Candle, which raced well in Kentucky made her first appearance in the east today and won easily from some good sprinters in the three-quarters handicap in which she was asked to carry US pounds and meet such a good sprinter as Phosphor, which ruled favorite for the race. The three-quarters route was not considered hardly far enough for Bayberry Candle and so her price was liberal. She won after being taken to the inside rail and coming from behind in game fashion. Marse Henry was second and Rhine Maiden third. As a result of her victory her connections are to said to have profited handsomely, as she was heavily backed. ■pectn essaying her first start, took the first race easily from Mirza. The winner ruled favorite and was ridden by the diminutive Warscher, who handled her well throughout the journey. Good Counsel won the second race over Dr. Gremer and Balgee after Armament tired. Balgee was started back in the fifth race and finished last. Old Broom winning easily from ltose Water. The feat of Balgee in starting in two races in one day was the first of its kind to occur in the east for a number of years. General Hugh L.
