ENCOURAGING PROSPECTS AT OTTAWA. Horses in Plenty, a Good Track and Much Local Interest Point to a Good Meeting. Ottawa, Ont., June 11. — A well-arranged program has been provided by secretary Sheridan Clark for the opening of the Connaught Park Jockey Clubs meeting tomorrow. The Duke of Connaucht Cup. fljtm added, a dash of one mile for Canadian -owned horses, is offered as a main attraction. An additional feature is a steeplechase over the two-mile leiirse. The track at Connaught Park this spring is in good condition and the going will be fast tomorrow, provided, of course, no rain comes up in the meantime. There are plenty of horses here for a successful meeting and much enthusiasm is shown by local lovers of the sport. The miituels will lie in operation at Connaught Park for the first time this spring. This will be the severest test the machines have boon put to as to whether they are more popular than the layers. The mutuel plant built by the club is a model one. compact, yet complete in every detail. Mortimer Mahouey is in charge of that department for the club. The staff of officials is practically the same as those employed at Blue Bonnets, except that Sheridan Clark "will be racing secretary and Francis Nelson handicapper. All are on hand ready for the opening. The three big special trainloads of horses that left Montreal last night and this morning for Ottawa arrived in good condition. The Dyments shipped their Brookdale Stable string up from Toronto, in charge of George Walker. T. J. Bird, who was recently appointed agent for the stable of Lieut. J. K. L. Ross, will look after jockey L. McAtces engagements at Connaucht Park. Jockey G. Byrne reconsidered his intention to return to New York and came over with the Dr. J. S. Tyree stable from Montreal. William Ouinn. who was employed as an exercise lad by the Ottawa Stable, committed suicide at Connaught Park this morning by drowning himself. Ouinn made an attempt to take his life at Blue Bonnets last week, but was frustrated. He was at one time employed by Howard Oots and later at Juarez by Frank llackelt. His home is in Brook-lvn. N. V. The body v::s removed to the morgue at Hull. Jockeys W. Ward and II. Lafferty were suspended by the stewards at Blue Bonnets ou Tuesday for rough riding.
