Juno 15. — The running of the third MM at Latonia today brought with it a had fall, ■which luckil.v tcrmin.iti l in nothing worse tlian a liad shaking up for jockey I.. Mink, who was astride Ceo. C. Uw. The crowding that culminated in the fall of the Schorr starter was due to the erratic running of Nettie Walcutt. which swerved badly and forcing Geo. . Lave to go down and threw Velvet Joe completely out of the race. The latter was a supposed good tiling, whis-lierings of this being his day going the rounds early. Any chance he may have had went a glimmering, for Gentry cased him to a mild canter when his case appeared hopeless. The winner turned up in Fan ;.. which, starting from an outer position. • •scaped interference and won from Nettie Wal-catt, with Pomp heading Sweet Helen for third place. After an absence from racing for over a year, Casey Jones, running in the colore of J. 15. Kespess. displayed a capital performance in scoring over Nobleman in the final strides. Liberator Ian led third. Uncle Hart and Liberator were the favored ones for this race and their failures were costly to the talent. After many efforts. Innocent Inez finally managed to emerge from the maiden ranks, when she Micceedod in heading Ginger Juill and Clare in the opener after a hard drive. The Baroness was backed in this race with rare confidence and that filly flattered by coming to the last eighth with a good lead, but in the final sixteenth tired badly. There is a controversy on for the services of jockey Itoscoe Goose in the UMN Derby, which the stewards will have to determine. John San-ford. owner of George Smith, wants him. and trainer W. M. Wallace claims the right to use him on Rig Smoke. Jerry, which 11. Fink bought at Louisville from W. 11. Baker, was sold this morning to A. J. Marko ::t private terms. Bringhurst and Roseoe Goose figured in a hard fought duel in the Queen City Handicap, which served .us the feature of todays card. The race had an added value of MM and only had four starters, with Chalmers and Bringhurst the most fancied. Chalmers went out with his customary sjieod and raced into what appeared a wiuning lead, but tired after rounding into the stretch and Hringhurst took tie- lead". Roseoe Goose then came witli a rush and in the last seventy yards the pair were driving to the limit and Bringiinrst just lasted long enough to get the verdict. Chalmers held J. J. Murdock safe at the end. J. W. Schorrs Latonia Derby hope Dick Williams was named to go in the Ivorydale Handicap today, but had to lie an absentee on account of getting the better of his rider this morning and running away a mile and a quarter at top speed, before he could again 1m- brought under control. Fine weather again prevailed and the attendance ■was remarkably large, in view of the off day card and considering it was tin1 day after the aaaanaaj. Speculation showed a larger volume than on the same day last year. Votary, owned by the J. 15. Haggin estate and trained by T. C. McDowell, is to be a starter in the Latonia Derby and worked a mile and a half this morning, in 2:33% in somewhat handy style. Secretary S. C. Nuckols of tiie Kentucky State Racing Commission was among todays visitors. He announced that there would l c a meeting of the commission in the Latonia clubhouse on Saturday. June 24. Money Maker was hacked with rare confidence for the Ivorydale Handicap and won in easy style from Embroidery and llanovia. The Grader made the early running, attended by Embroidery, but the latter took the lead on the lower turn and when 1 The Grader swung wide on the stretch turn, it gave 1 Money Maker a big opening to get through.
