Bradley Wins a Race— More Owners Engage Quarters at Hawthorne. r Cincinnati. .. June 27. — Representatives of the 3. N. Hawkins stable figured prominently in the result of todays racing, 1 accounting for the feature races, two handicaps of added. The mile and a quarter race, which Hank ODay won after a furious drive with lif Jr.. resulted in a new track record, the former mark of 2:0s1/-, being reduced to 2:03%. Hank ODay s showing this ufternoon represented a vast improvement over many of his recent essays, in about the same kind of company lie met this afternoon. He showed great ttpeod from the start, held on witli rare gameness in the stretch and ultimately outstayed lif Jr., after the latter seemed to have the race Won. Chalmers was the other member of the Hawkins establishment to win when he scored impressively In the sprinting handicap, with Kathleen in second place and Rringhurst third. Like Hank ODay. Chalmers showed a high order of speed and led Kathleen throughout. Todays good card, coupled with splendid weather, was instrumental in bringing out another large crowd. The racing was keen and hard fought from the start, but in spots was unsatisfactory, due to form reversals. In addition to the improvement shown by Hank ODay. that of Vogue caused some comment. In her preceding race she was a distant trailer, but this afternoon she followed J. 4. M unlock at a fast pace and wore him down under hard urging. K. 11. Bradley took his first purse in some time, when Believe Me Hoys led all the way in the opening dash and won handily over Kagura. W. II. Makers Hot Toddy again earned a bracket when lie wound up in advance of a fairly good band of youngsters in the third. Kd. Jasper who served ns secretary at the Worth, Empire City, Churchill Downs and Juarez tracks, has been engnged to assist at Hawthorne and began preliminary work here today in the interest of the Illinois Jockey Club. Mr. Jasper will also act us handicapper here, beginning next Monday when secretary J. B. Campbell of the Niagara Racing Association departs for the Fort Erie track. Martin Nathanson continues to receive a gratifying list of entries to the stakes offered by the Illinois Jockey Club. Numerous additional owners today signified their intention of racing at Chicago and made application for stall room. Of the 535 stalls now in readiness at the Hawthorne track, fully 400 will be assigned to horsemen here. Thomas Carey, owner of Hawthorne, and president Frank Frochling of the Illinois Jockey Club, Will arrive tomorrow and remain several days. C. It. Anderson today shipped several of his racers to Fort Krie to engage in the racing there. Others contemplating shipment shortly to Fort Erie include A. 1.. Kirby. YV. II. Krey and E. Cook. Jockey dry. who rode learl L. in the first race, i was suspended for ten days by the starter for r- disobedience at the post. Jockey I.. Gentry was given a sharp caution by the stewards for his interference with Milbrey in the stretch running. Jockey Lapaille was suspended for five days by the stewards for interference with Uringhurst in the fifth race-.
