NO SPECIAL FEATURE RACE XATONIA CARD GIVEN UP TO THE HUMBLE PLATERS WITH FREQUENT UPSETS. Conflagration Proves Himself a Stayer in the Long Distance Race King Dick Victor in an Exciting Finish. Cincinnati, O., .Inly 7. Todays card at Latonia was devoid of special features and brought together the poorer grade of horses in these parts. Most of tin; fields were unwieldy and their ordinary caliber resulted in decreased speculation. Upsets were again frequent, favorites going down to defeat in most of the races. The allowance race for two-year-olds, the only race that did not have a selling clause attachment, went to King Dick. The placing of him in front of Lnngdcu did not meet with general approval, for it appeared to some as if the Respess starter had flashed liy King Dick just before reaching the finish. The two indulged in a strenuous stretch struggle and only a matter of inches separated them at the end. Do Land, a starter in this race, acted fractiously at the post and unseated jockey Connelly three times at the barrier. "When the start came Ie Land refused to go with the others. The opener brought fifteen maidens of all degrees to the barrier. It was the biggest field that has started at the meeting. Margaret Burkley broke down in tin; race and Some Reach was left at the post. Norvic landed the purse from ITeuron II. and Solid Rock. The latter ran a smart race and Mould have won with better racing luck. Milbrey and Altamaha, respectively favorites for the second and third races, failed in their efforts. I!ob Dundon beat Milbrey by a neck and Jane Straith took the measure of Altamaha by a nose. Jane Straith changed owners after the iinisli. J. M. Henry, Jr., acquiring her on his bid of 00, which was an advance of 00 over the entered price. In the mile and a half race, Conflagration, after trailing far back and apparently badly beaten, furnished a surprise by coming with a tremendous rush in the stretch to overhaul the leaders and win by a neck from Billows. After dismounting from Norvic, winner of the opening race, jockey F. Murphy was taken suddenly ill and on advice of the doctor cancelled all his remaining riding engagements and went home. The seven racers, including Waterbass, trained by "V. T. Martin, were shipped to Windsor this afternoon. Jockey J. Callahan went with the stable. Garrett D. Wilson, secretary of the Kentucky Association, was a visitor this afternoon. He reports that entries, for the breeders Futurity, to be run in 1918, tilled exceptionally well and that over "00 nominations were made to the race. Jockey W. Iloag departed this morning for his home in Pittsburgh before going on to Chicago, where he will rejoin the William Woodard stable. AVilliam Hurley will ship his racers to Xew York after the close of racing hen-. Trainer W. Perkins was advised during the afternoon of the death of his wife in Lexington.
