PESICY VINS THE FORT ERIE FEATURE. Yall Street Wins and Is Claimed oy Four, hut H. G. Bcdwell Gets Him Track Gossip. Fort Erie, Out., July 7. D. A. OMoaras Broomstick filly Pesky, Accounted for todays feature race at Fort Erie, a handicap at three-quarters, which she won in easy fashion. She was ridden by T. Partington, followed the fast early pacemakers to the stretch, then went to the front with a rush and drew awav at her riders leisure in the final eighth. The selling race activities, which broke out afresh here :i few days ago, bid fair to be carried on with vigor. The conditions of the opening race permitted the winner to be claimed for the entered pike and, after Wall Street had won, four claims were lodged for the gelding, the claimants being Sam Louis. Harry Rites. William Walker and H. G. Bcdwell. In the drawing the last-named got the gelding. After Bon Otis won the third race. Bedwell advanced her from 00 to Sl.li."i0. Her owner. F. J. Pons, bought her in. The latter claimed Lueile P., which finished second, for ,250. William Shields lias received a letter from Dr. J. S. Tyree. in which the latter expressed much pleasure over the dozen yearling;; he recently purchased at various farms in Kentucky. One of the band is a colt out of Sanfara. Dr. Tyree is an ardent sportsman and a great admirer of the thoroughbred. His good three-year-old King Neptune is being rested at Hamilton and will not be sent to tin- post again, probably, before some of the fall meetings in Maryland. Dr. Tyree maintains a big string at considerable expense and is one of the desirable supporters of the turf. While galloping the two-year-old Tarves this morning the saddle girth broke and jockey J. Connor suffered a bad fall. The lad was fortunate in escaping with a shaking up, but will be unable to ride for a day or two. M. Gormans Aleeto got out of her stall during the night and wandered about the adjacent country. Her trainer found her some nine miles from the track grazing along the roadside and badly cut up. Supreme, winner of the seventh race yesterday, was claimed by Harry Rites. A committee of the horsemen waited on President J. II. Madigin of the Niagara Racing Association, regarding the deduction of one per cent from the purses to be subscribed to the Canadian Red Cross fund and the matter Mill be referred to the Canadian Racing Associations committee at its next meeting. Irving H. Wheat croft was present to see Arriet run yesterday and was pleased with the good race that the mare ran. Incidentally he profited handsomely over her victory. Mr. Wheatcioft has horses running in England, Spain, Australia. Canada and the United States. He contemplates bringing over another large consignment from England next fall with the idea of disposing of them at private sale. Crawford Ross, secretary of the Connaught Park Jockey Club, accompanied by Mr. Ollearn and Thomas Gorman, sporting editor of the Ottawa Citizen, wen: visitors at Fort Erie today. They motored down from Ottawa.
