CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF. The latest work of Harry Payne Whitneys Pennant for the Itrookdale Handicap was a mile and an eighth in 1:54, easily. If the plans of Tom Ilealey do not go amiss, part of the It. T. Wilson stable will leave for Saratoga Springs next Monday in charge of Patsy Dwyer. After an offering from the committee representing the horsemens association, the purses at King Edward Park meeting wore reduced Thursday afternoon from 00 to 00, which will be their value for the remainder of the meeting. This was done owing to the fact that the club could not continue racing with 00 purses. Captain Cassatt has good reason to be gratified with the victory of Trial by Jury in the Carter Handicap, for he has one half-sister and two half-brothers to that good stake horse. Trial by Jury is by Mr. P.elnionts Fair Flay Princess Chic, by Potomac, second dam Thrilling, by Kingston. She was bred by John Sanford, who sold her to Captain Cassatt. S. C. Hildreth, acting for August Belmont, has taken first call on apprentice Lykes for the Empire City and Saratoga meetings. This little fellow can ride at 91 pounds and will do the lightweight riding for the Belmont establishment. He lias shown much improvement since the opening of the Metropolitan season and has been riding in excellent form at the present meeting. A post-morten examination has revealed the fact that Mr. P.elnionts colt Sandusky, 2, ray Hastings" Sans Gene, died of hemorrhage of the brain. He had just finished a half-mile work-out and dropped dead as the boy on his back was turning him around to walk him to the place where he was to be unsaddled preparatory to being cooled out. He had shown a half mile in 48 seconds in what proved to be his last gallop.
