BRITISH ERCODMARE RESOURCES. The third supplement to Vol. XXII., of the General Stud Book is to hand. It contains the returns relating to broodmares for the season 1!I15, and all the usual information in a convenient form for reference. Messrs. Weathcrby are the compilers and publishers. The mares accounted for number about 0,010. This total is ::I0 higher than that of 1011. As the mares were covered in 1914 we are still dealing with ante-war statistics. The colt foals registered number 1,77:. which compares with 1.720 in 1!M and the filly foals 1.7! 1 1.003 in 1014. There wore 1,470 barren mares 1,412 in 1011, 152 slipped 107 the1 previous year, and 170 were not covered. Mares put to half-bred sires numbered 55. :tt0 died, :t: were sent abroad, and :.:!2 were either not reported or had been put out of the stud. These totals make a grand aggregate of O.OSS, but inasmuch as twins are counted as two foals and on an average, eight mares in 1,000 produce twins, about 50 must hi; subtracted from the aggregate to get at the actual number of mares accounted for. Deducting the mares dead, exported, unrecorded and retired, we find that there were 5,275 thoroughbred mares in active service in the United Kingdom in 1!15. It must be a very long time since so few mares were sent abroad in tho course of a year. In 101-1 the number was 120, and in 1013 it was 102. The drop to 33, is therefore, very significant. The following is a list of the stallions serving in 1011 credited last year with twenty or more living foals: Sire. Foals. Sire. Foals.
