In his race of Monday, at Empire City, Harry Shaw carried a burr to keep him from running in to the rail. That was because the track near the rail was still heavy from the recent rains, and John Powers, his owner and trainer wauled him to run on the middle of the track, which was fast. There lie believed he would race his best and win. The burr worked to perfection so far as it pertained to the course the horse should take, but after the race many horsemen said it prevented him from doing his lust; that In- was not used to it and that it tended to cause him to quit.
