HAMILTON MEETING PROGRESSING. Damrosch an Easy First in the Feature Race Thornhill Under Disfavor Pomp a Winner. Hamilton. Out., July 27. Lieut. J. K. L. Boss furnished the winner of the Sandringham llandi- J cap todays feature race, in his Bock Sand colt p Damrosch. The latter smothered his opponents r, with speed, and after racing into a long lead 1 11 on the first turn, led for the remainder of the s race and won in a canter. c The Kenilworth handicap, under selling condi- t tions. brought a well matched field to the post, S and furnished a good contest, in which Astrologer d beat Fair Helen by a head. After Pomp won the fifth race he was claimed o of by L Trotter for ,000. Three claims were n put in for Conowingo and G. Alexandra secured 3 her. for ,100. c The Stewards issued a notice this afternoon a refusing the entry of the horse Thornhill for t the rest of the meeting for inconsistent run- t ning. Johnson and Crossthwaite report the death of the d two-year-old Ed Morrow, by Ben Brush Lass of 1 Wheat ley. The colt had shown some good trials li and was promising. a Mary Warren broke down in her race and Obert v was forced to dismount at the paddock gate after p the finish. W. Martin has received word that Hart Newman t would start in his auliimn racing season at the r Essex Park meeting at Hot Springs next fall. Mr. t Newman will ship about a dozen head to the Ar- kansas track. Eight of them will be yearlings and " oidy one of the number is a colt. The yearlings 1 are all big fine-looking youngsters. Pan areta o of weighs 1,200 pounds and is in particularly good y condition. Noon, a promising three-year-old that o o was operated on during the Hot Springs meeting, t has rounded to and is doing extra well. The New- o of man horses will be shipped from Sweetwater, Tex.. p about the middle of October and will be sent direct ii to Essex Park, where stable room has already been 11 reserved. 11 Steeplechase jockey Stevenson, who suffered pain- d Oil injuries as a result of a fall while riding h Frijolee in yesterdays jumping race, is still in an a unconscious condition in one of the local hospitals. I I When Stevenson fell the horse Jack AVinston jumped s on him. o John AVhalen has wired asking that six stalls be 1 reserved for liini at Fort Erie. He proposes to t bring four horses, among them the imported colt s so Boots, an eligible for the ,000 Dominion Handi- h cap, to be run on the opening day of the next meet- n ing at Fort Erie. Boots was a great long-distance a as horse in England. After filling his engagement in t the Dominion Handicap, Boots will be shipped to b Saratoga. The others of the AVhalen striug will f probably be turned over to Edward Kathmau to o race on the Canadian circuit. a
