GOLDEN GATE raced NINETY SIMPLEX into defeat and drew into a clear lead on the far turn, but could not withstand the winners challenge. ROYAL INTEREST raced into a long lead in tin? first quarter and was taken under restraint and rated to the eighth post, then drew away again, but tired in the closing strides and just lasted long enough to win. CARLTON G., after several futile efforts to overtake the leader, closed up steadily in the homestretch and would have won in another stride. REY OAKWOOD began five lengths behind the others and moved into third place in the early running, but could never get to the leaders. Tlii others were badly outpaced. PORT LIGHT drew clear at the start and, setting a fast pace, raced into a long lead in the homestretch, but tired when challenged. SPRINT saved ground when entering the homestretch and outstayed PADDY WHACK in the final drive. The latter had no mishaps. POCK1CIIOO was pulled up sharply after the start. LIVELY was under hard pressure throughout and ran a trifle green. PENROD, away slowly, closed up rapidly in the final quarter, but could never get to the leaders.
