TOP 0 TH MORNING CONTINUES TO WIN. Ray o Light Defeats Zodiac in a Hot Finish Jano Straith Wins and Is Bid Up. Hamilton, Out., July 28. Top o th Jlorning scored his third straight victory on the Canadian circuit when he beat a band of fast sprinters in the Midsummer Handicap, todays feature race;, lie was ridden by F. Robinson, came from behind and won going away. W. Shields has this horse in grand-looking condition and he is pulling up sound right along. He has taken on fully fifty pounds since passing into his hands. One of the closest finishes of the afternoon attended tin? running of the third race, in which Ray o Light beat Zodiac by a head. Tin; winner was claimed after his victory by Sam Louis for 50. Mrs. L. A. Livingstons good-looking maiden Sim-lah was jumped on aiid cut down in the second race. The first run-up of the meeting came after Jam; Straith won the Winona selling handicap. Entered for ,000, she was advanced to ,005 by her former owner, W. Perkins, and was bought in. G. Read was an arrival. He is here seeking a jockey to ride one of the 3Iacomber colts in the Flash Stakes to be run at Saratoga on 3Ion-clay next. Jockey E. Ambrose, who has been ill for a few days, has recovered sufficiently to lie able to accept mounts again, and will be seen in the saddle on Incog in the Nursery Stakes tomorrow. Jack ilelherson has decided not to make another attempt to train the mare Mary Warren. She came out of her race yesterday in bad condition and it is doubtful if she would stand training again. 3IcPhcrson is negotiating with Mrs. L. A. Livingston to trade the mare for one of her two-year-olds. In tin; event of a transfer being made, Mary Warren will be shipped to Rancocas Farm to go into the stud. Runes is reported to have come out of his race of yesterday decidedly sore and trainer J. Edwards announced that he would let up on him for a month or six weeks. Matt Smart sent to New York for steeplechase jockey Walker to come to Canada to ride the horses he s training. Stevenson, who was injured on the opening day. is said to be improving and hopes are now entertained for his recovery. A. C. Parretto is negotiating with Thomas Hatfield for the transfer of the contract the latter holds on jockey 3Iorrov. In the event of his being unable to secure Morrow he will probably sign jockey R. McDermott. The stewards are holding up McDermotts license until they are satisfied that James Duller has released the lad. J. C. Richardson will ship tin; J. Liimsdcn horses from here to Fort Erie 3Iom!ay. W. Shields will also send a division of his stable to Fort Uric. The cithers will be shipped direct to Ottawa, where they will be rested until the opening of the Coiinaiight Park Jockey Clubs meeting. J. Shannon received word from Edward McDride that he would leave; Daltimore for Saratoga in a few days to be on hand for the yearling sales. 3!cl.ride proposes to purchase a half dozen yearlings and turn them over to .Shannon to develop. D. A. Hewitt claimed Outlook for ,350 after she was beaten in tiie sixth race.
