NO OUTSTANDING FEATURE EMFIRE CITY RACING YESTERDAY QUITE OF THE COMMONPLACE BRAND. Monocacy at Odds -On Outfinishcd by Jesse- Jr. Harry Shaw Victor in the Main Race of the Day. New York, July 28. Rather an ordinary card was run off at Empire City today, the nearest approach to a feature being a handicap at one mile, which was contested by some; fairly good horses. The first nice went to Ed Roche, which showed a good performance to win, going away, over Gadiola and Storm Nymph. Fail-brother rode Ed Roche with much confidence and, although outpaced in the early running, moved up with a rush in the stretch and had his mount under restraint at the cj-.d. 3Iouocacy. incited at odds-on, went down to defeat in the second race before Jesse Jr., which has been racing quite consistently of late, especially since being in the stable of James Fitz-simmoiis for a brief time;. Today he caught the tiring Monoeocy fifty yards from the finish and raced past him in the; closing strides. The Kentucky Stable horses will be shipped to Saratoga Sunday. Jesse. Jr., was advanced from to ,200 by J. J. 31oran, but was protected by J. W. Hed-rick. The; weather was about the best of the present meeting with bright sunshine and a cool breeze all afternoon. The; track had dried out greatly. After many attempts Harry Shaw finally managed to win today, albeit by a narrow margin, lie ruled favorite; for the hamlcnp. was sent into an early lead, always held a slight margin over Coquette and finally won handily. Coquette ran well under her impost, hanging on gamely throughout. She challenged .Harry Shaw while; going up the back stretch, but coiild never pass him. At the end she came again but the winner held her safe. The first disqualification of the meeting occurred after the running of the fifth race when James P.utlers Fair Count, which finished second, was disqualified for causing a niixup on the first turn. Saturn bedng the chief sufferer. Pockichoo. the winner, was out clear at the time and was in no way to blame for the iutorfereiic, having gone into the lead before; it occurred. Dradley Wilson, organizer for the Kentucky Thoroughbred Horse; Association, was a visitor toelay and will remain over tomorrow doing missionary work among the horsemen. A call has been issueil by II. Price Hcudlcy, president of the association, for the executive committees and all local committees to meet at Saratoga, August 11, when all matters pertaining to the best interest oT the turf will be fully discussed. Mr. Wilson said: "We expect representatives from Maryland, Kentucky, Camilla ami New York to be present and recommendations will be made; to the various jockey clubs. The selling race question will also come up for discussion." J. W. Hedrick bid Kathryn Gray, winner of the last race, to ,100. an advance of 00 over her entered price, but the filly was bought in by the stable.
