Fort Erie, Ont., August 12. Harry Pavne AVhit-ney s Borrow, after many disappointments this year, finally made good when he won the Edward A. Maglnn Memorial Handicap, the feature race of the closing days program of the Niagara Racing Association here this afternoon. Borrow was an odd-on favorite, was ridden by F. Robinson, made all the pace and won under a pull. He ran the mile and a sixteenth in 1:44 which was within two-fifths of a second of the track record for the distance. There were only four starters and Pif Jr. and King Gorin. the R. L. Raker entry, finished second and third. Buffalo racegoers turned out in large numbers, the attendance being equal to that of anv day of the meeting. It was their last opportunity for seeing the thoroughbreds at Fort Erie until next year. Racing conditions could not have been improved upon, the weather being ideal for outdoor sport and the track was in perfect condition. Close finishes attended the running of a majority of the races. R. L. Baker, who has lost several horses through claiming, took Peep Sight out of the second rare. The horse cost him 1,250. Mr. Bakers claim was the only one made for the horse. Jockey S. AAolsteholm was suspended for the remainder of the meeting on Friday by the stewards for rough riding. C. O. Smith was a visitqr at Fort Eric today. Pons left for his farm in Tennessee to arrange for the shipment of the Tony Bonero yearlings to Saratoga, where they will he disposed of at auction August 21.- Barney Schreiber left for Saratoga tonight to remain for the rest of the meeting. Mr. Schreiber will probably go to Tijuana next winter. Tin; friends of Peter MeOrath are much alarmed over his condition. Mr. McGrath was stricken a few days ago with an attack of heart failure and is at present confined in the Touraine hotel in Buffalo, when? he is attended by a trained nurse and a couple of doctors. An effort is being made to locate some of his relatives. The horsemen generally are dissatisfied with the claiming rule recently adopted at the request of some of their members. The members of the Canadian branch of the Thoroughbred Horse Association, who will leave for Saratoga tomorrow, will make an effort to have the matter straightened out at the meeting to be held at Saratoga Springs, on Monday. The members of the Canadian committee are H. G. Bedwell. James Arthur, Harry Giddings, Jr.. Capt. AY. J. Press and D. A. OMeara.
