LATONIA3 PRINCIPAL FALL ATTRACTION. Latonia. Ky., August 12. The Latonia autumn meeting of nineteen days racing, which begins this year on Saturday. October 7, will undoubtedly rank as one of the greatest autumn season of the sport ever held in this state. It will be a most worthy follower of the successful summer meeting at this track, which was conducted for twenty-four days tliis year, and in many respects was fully up to the record meetings in that season of the year of old days. The big feature of the autumn meeting at Latonia is the Latonia Cup, which will be something like an 8,000 gross value event this year, as Manager John llachmeister has increased the added money to 5,000. The Latonia Cup is at tw.o miles and a quarter and the date of closing of the entries, as well as the other stakes on the program at Latonia this fall, is Friday. August 18. The Latonia Cup has annually increased more and more in importance as one of the big races of the western turf, but, as great as it has been in previous years, it is certain to draw this season its largest array of entries and the class of horses to be engaged in the event will be the stars of the racing world of ages from three years old and over. It has been customary to run this race on the closing day of the Latonia meeting, which winds up the racing season of the year in this state and this rule will be adhered to again this year. The opening days feature will be the popular Latonia Inaugural Handicap, at one mile and a sixteenth, with 2,000 added. The other stakes to be run at the coming Latonia meeting are the Fort Thomas Handicap, with 2,000 added at three-quarters, and the Autumn Stakes, witli 1,500 added at one mile. During the fifteen days at Latonia next fall, on which no stake race is down for decision, there will be each afternoon a purse or handicap with 1,000 in added money, and on the closing day of the meeting, which is the afternoon that the Latonia Cap will be decided, there will be an overnight event with 1,500 added at one mile, designed to bring together two-year-olds which are promising Derby candidates of 1917. So in added money, as a total, the Latonia Jockey Club will beat records next fall for autumn racing in Kentucky. The dates assigned for the big meeting this year come at a time when there will be no opposition for the racing at Latonia in America, with the exception of the Laurel track in Maryland. The meeting at Latonia does not open until after all the racing for the year has ceased on the Canadian tracks. The Latonia course will also draw the many stables which are on their way to the winter courses and it is safe to say, that next fall the racing at this popular course will assume the spectacular in nearly every race run.
