Karriek is handling eight yearlings purchased by S. I. Riddle and Mrs. AValter D. Jeffords at the recent Saratoga sales. August Belmont, chairman of the Jockey Club, arrived., at Saratoga Thursday in time to see his filly. Malachite, win the Alabama Stakes. Silas Veitch will handle G. J. Longs Jasper, candidate for the Harbor Hill, and Mary Estelle, which has also been named for that jumiing race. A carload of yearlings consigned to AVilliam H. Karriek is due. at Saratoga Monday. This shipment, which is from Lexington, will include those belonging to Messrs, II. K. Knapp and S. L. Parsons. Starter Mars Cassidy is the proud owner of Symphony, two-year-old filly by Tregantle, dam Melody. This filly is considered the best trotter of her age in Kentucky. Cassidy has refused several rich offers for her. A. I. B. Jones, who built and operated the Alexander Island track, situated on the banks of the Potomac, opposite Washington, died on Sunday last. The- first meeting at his track was held in 1891. The roierty cost 7,000 and was recently sold to a railroad for 0,000. During the three year.s racing was conducted at the Virginia course Jones is credited with having cleaned up a fortune.
