IMPORTED HORSES VICTORS TAKE THREE OF THE SIX BELMONT PARK RACES OF YESTERDAY. Widencrs Costly Mont dOr II. Wins the Stake Race of the Day Sisaga Gives Mr. Macomber His Second Success of the Year. Now York. August 31. J. K. Widencrs French racer Mont dOr II.. starting in the Autumn liili-vetght Handicap today, worth ,230 not, scored y a narrow margin over Short Crass. Hidden Star, the only other starter, was beaten ofT. The -winner sot the pace from the start, hut was all out at the end and it took Notters best effort to 0t him home first, as Short Crass came with a sroat burst of speed in the final eighth and would imve won in another stride or two. .Mont dOr II.s face did not gain him many additional admirers. It was noted that the three starters in this race are all imported horses, although Hidden Star is American-bred. Blue Thistle, which always raced at his best vor the Belmont Iark course, took the measure of Ienmouso in the third, a handicap at one mile and n sixteenth. Feumouse might have furnished more contention at the end had she not been sent out after Kilmer, which showed a surprisingly Kiwi turn of speed in going down the backstictch. When Blue Thistle made his challenge in he stretch lie easily passed her. I.ady Teresa ran a dull race and was beaten off. The weather was perfect and the attendance of fair size for mid week. The club house contingent was especially well represented. It was a notable feature of the days racing that Imported horses won half the card. Mont dOr II., Sanserif and Sisaga were the foreigners to score. Frank M. Taylor, who recently severed his connection as trainer for Willis Sharpe Kilmer, has received several offers to train for prominent stables, but has not as yet decided as to his future plans. Jockey .1. McCahey, it is reported, will again be in the saddle at Havre de Grace, having recovered front a brief illness. lie has been at his home in Philadelphia for the past several weeks. A. .1. Goldsborough will take the Andrew Miller and 11. II. Hewitt horses to Havre de Grace. There are four two-year-olds in the establishment, including Skeptic, which will be a starter in the Futurity. .1. K. Mott. a well-known sportsman of F.lmira. X. Y.. is a visitor at Belmont Iark. George . Hennett is also here for tin- meeting. A. K. Macomber scored his first victory with his imported stock when Sisaga. a two-year-old daughter of Sunflower II. anil Fair Lassie. w.;s returned winner of the closing dash. This lilly was decidedly best, as she was subjected to much early interference. Her victory also marked the second of the year for her owner, who hns been by far the most liberal thoroughbred purchaser of the year. It is a source of regret to well-wishers of the A. K. Macomber stable that this turfman will not be represented in the Futurity, as St;ir Master and Star Gazer, the stables dependencies, were both i suffering from high fever today, their temperatures ; being 111. Seminole King was looked upon as a likely to start, but trainer W. I!. Jennings decided 1 the colt had not trained satisfactorily, so he will ! not be a starter. Sanscrit, winner of the first race, was purchased I by Charles T. Patterson in England last season for C. K. G. Killings for tiM guineas and is a half-brother to the well-known English stayer l?rovnii. James Butler will ship his extensive stable to Havre de Grace to engage in the racing there before- going to Laurel. .1. . Keene, who has contracted to train the s stable of the Countess Eugenie Lnzeroff of Russia t for the next year, has decided to consign eight ! yearlings to the Powers-Hunter Confpanys sale ; of September 5.
