LEXINGTON HACING DRAWS BEST CROWD OF THE MEETING ATTENDS ALTHOUGH IT WAS MONDAY. Jane Straith Runs a Fast Race and Easily Defeats Star Jasmine Jockey Murphy Distinguishes Himself Two Races for Owner Strang:. I Lexington, Ky., September 11. Todays attendance outnumbered that of any previous gathering lutiu; this meeting and speculation was correspondingly increased. The card of seven races arranged by Secretary AV. II. Shelley was a good one. and resulted in keen and fast racing. The overthrow of Star Jasmine and the sparkling: performance of Jane Straitli in tlte same race were outstanding incidents of the afternoon. Jane Straith developed a sensational flight of early sliced and held on resolutely for the entire mile and seventy yards to win eased up over Star Jasmine in 1:411. which equaled the track record held by lima. Had Tdurphy so desired, he could have won much further off and in faster time. 5. Ii. Strang, owner of Jane Straitli, also took the purse in the succeeding race when Deliver romped home before good opponents to win easily. Jockey Murphy was much in the limelight during the afternoon, for, in addition to riding Jane Straith and Deliver, he also had the mount on Luzzi, winner of the opener. Luzzi carried the old-time colors of the late J. C. Yoager, who died recently at Niagara Kalis. Mrs. Yeager was on hand to see the filly run and, later, announced that she would dispose of the winner. Huntress and three youngsters, by auction during the Douglas Park meeting. J. S. Wallace will have charge of the sale. A close finish developed in the second race, which was contested by a dozen ordinary two-year-old maiden fillies. The winner turned up in Bird Lore, with Pollynnna .second and Queens lark in third place. Jockey K. Davies. who had the mount on Ruth Welile in the second race, was suspended for five days by tiie starter for disobedience at the post. The closing of Kcnilworth track at Windsor brought here an influx of horsemen and followers. The newcomers included A. L. Kirby and jockeys 11. Stearns and L. Jen try. Jockey Murphy again distinguished himself in the fifth men when In; lauded the neglected Ieachie, winner by a narrow margin after a strenuous drive.
