ONE OF ENGLANDS PROMISING SIRES. On the occasion of my recent visit to Wynyard I was chiefly interested in seeing Corcyra, which is standing there, for it is well on the cards that he is the best of all the sons of Polymelus, Pommern notwithstanding, and he is rarely bred on his dams side, she being bv Persimmon out of Nenemoosha, of the No. C family, and tracing to Margery Daw. He is a really grand horse, standing about 16.2, with quality, character and power. His performances speak for themselves, and there is no reason why he should not go right to the top of the tree as a stud horse especially as his mares Will have absolutely fresh land for their pasture, Lord Londonderry having taken in quite a, big range of extra ground for five large new paddocks, to which there are a number of first-class boxes, away from the old stud. A great attraction of Corcyra as a stud horse is to my mind his touch of Hagioscope breeding. This seems to be almost a, warranty of suc- cess in these days, and Marcovil, son of Lady Villikins, by Hagioscope, has given the latest proof of it through his son, Hurry On. The Tetrarch, however, and several others with the Hagioscope touch are pressing to the front also, and I think it is all because Hagioscope was an exceptionally hardy, robust sort of horse in an age when the tendency was to softness and bad constitutions. Anyhow, there is at Wynyard a colt foal by Corcyra out of Mizpah, by Blankney, which is an almost exact reproduction of his sire both in color and formation. He is named Contalmaison, from the hotly contested place on the Somme front, aud he looks like asserting himself as successfully as the British troops did. Anyhow, he is a first-rate foal, I care not where the other comes from. Mizpah is a fine strong mare, which has visited Holiday House this year. Corcyra has been sufficiently supported in his first and second seasons at the stud and, if I may suggest, owners of mares of Agnes family should give them a chance with him, for Pommern is by Polymelus out of an Agnes mare, and the family lias always suited horses of the Bend Or line, as witness Ormonde, Kendal and Martagon.
