PLATERS DAY AT LATONIA FLORAL PARK WINS THE FEATURE RACE AND IS BARRED HEREAFTER. Blanchita Takos a Race for Owner McDowell Stewards Inquire Into Inconsistent Running Official Announcement of Juarez Opening. Cincinnati, O., October 13. Todays card -was somewhat below the Latonia standard. Horses of ordinary calibre contested most of the racos, but no fault -was found with the sport, for it wis wholesome and the purses keenly contested. The feature, if such it could be termed, was a selling handicap at one mile and an eighth, which resulted in a victory for Floral Park by a narrow margin over Syrian, with Yenghee leading Solid Rock, the only other starter. The quartet ran closely grouped from the start. Floral Park was the outsider of the race and disposed of Syrian, the favorite, in the last sixteenth. It was Floral Parks first winning race in a long time. Trainer T. P. Hayes saddled another winner, when Kinney managed to scurry home in advance of the sprinters lie met in the three-quarters allowance race. He had to lie urged strongly to out stay Arch Plotter, a first-time starter hero. Jim Wakely proved best of the maidens in the opening dash and won easily from J. C. Stone. Matin was lucky to win the second race, as Spring Song, a first-timer owned by T. C. McDowell, was best anil was beaten only because of greenness at the barrier, which caused her to be practically left at the post. The McDowell colors were carried to victory in the third race by Blanchita. Weather and track conditions were again perfect for the sport and a surprisingly large crowd was on hand. Speculation was also of generous volume. The activity of the stewards continues and It. P. Dickinson was given a severe grilling this morning by the officials, for tin; inconsistent running of Guide Post. He was told in no uncertain language that consistency on the part of his horses would be expected in the future. The stewards also issued notice after Floral Parks victory today that her entry in the future would not be accepted at this track. "It is manifestly unfair to other well behaved starters in a race with her that she should delay the start and probably cause them to je away badly, because of the starters desire thjt she should not have the worst of the send-off." Said Steward Charles F. Price: "We intend to treat all bad actors alike and bar them on justification." Spring Wheats victory was followed by a summons for owner Perkins to explain that horses bad showing in his last, start and his sudden improvement ioday. Perkins had a lengthy session with the stewards and his explanation, that the addition of blinkers to the horses equipment today, was responsible for his improved showing, was accepted. Christopher J. FitzGerald stopped off briefly last night enroute to Watervillc. nis mission there is to give a brief talk on behalf of horse husbandry to the farmers in this section. There is a fair going on at Waterville at present under the patronage of George F. Frey Tower, son of the former Ambassador to Russia. Mr. Tower is much interested in breeding and lias the stallion Redeye, by The Commoner, serving the mares of the farmers in his section free of cost. He also recently added forty mares that he secured in Canada to his establishment. Mr. FitzGerald predicts groat raeinsr in Havana and stated that A. K. Macombcr would move his house-boat to Havana harbor and that he would also ship about a dozen racers there to carry his colors at Oriental Park next winter. After Spring Soug was beaten in "the second race, she was claimed for 1.200 by .1. M. Henry, Jr., represented in the race by Helen Thompson. Reno and Rifle Shooter were bought at private terms this afternoon from W. II. P.aker by A. L. Kirby, who will race them at New Orleans next winter. .7. W. May sold Malabar to Cecil Rowc at private sale this morning. The case against the Latonia association for failure to comply with the ordinance requiring a 00 license for each race run at the track came ip for hearing this morning. The Latonia association contends that inasmuch as the track is not entirely located in Covington, no race is run in Covington, the starting and finishing lines being outside of Covington. Brief were submitted and the verdict will be rendered later. J. M. Henry, Jr., advanced Blanchita from an entered price of hB100 to 1916.sh00 and secured her. Official announcement came this morning from M. 3i Winn, general manager of the Juarez track, that racing at that place would begin on Thanksgiving day for a period of 103 days. The mutucl style of betting will be the exclusive method of wagering at the course and the purses will be of 00 value. A number of owners will ship there from here.
