CLOSE FINISH AT PIMLICO CHICLET GETS UP IN THE LAST STRIDE TO DEFEAT LEOCHARES. Tho Latter Unlucky and Forced Out on the Last Turn Sixty Four Takes the Steeplechase in the Last Stride. Baltimore, Md., November 8. Andrew Jackson Joynor sent another winner to the post this afternoon when ho saddled Joseph E. Wideners Chiclet, the four-year-old imported colt by Spearmint Nature, .which beat Loocharos by a head in a sinew-straining finish.. Chiclet came from behind and just managed to get up in the final strides. The race was not a truly run one. Leochares was best and but for being forced to the outside fence by J. J. Llllis as the two made the turn for home, he would have won. There is no question as to that, for Iochares lost several lengths by the mishap. Klines was another that suffered from bad racing luck, and ran in close company with Chiclet for the entire way and was making his move with the latter in tho final eighth. Just before the winning line was reached, Leochares bored over on him. Uuues was in between Chiclet and I.eochares and was crowded out. Hauberk and J. J. Lillis were added, starters. The latter made the pace to the stretch turn, where lie swerved out. Hauberk was never prominent at any point in the running. The. .Maryland Jockey Club management announced today that during the remainder of the meeting the time for the running of the first race will be 1:45 p. m. The linisli of todays steeplechase was particularly close, and Sixty Four, which closed a big gap, just managed to get up in the closing stride to beat New Haven by the narrowest of margins. It develops, that jockey Q. lrceees leg was broken, as. a result of The Rump bumping into him while at the post the other day. It was not the leg that was broken last summer, but the right leg. This will keep the lad out of the saddle for a month. Faux Pas, tiie property of It. McCarter Potter and Night Owl and Trentino, owned by.lt. T. Wilson, have been added to the sale which will be held here on Saturday. The suspension imposed on jockey J. Denuison has been, lifted by the stewards and the boy restored to full privileges. The. entry of the mare Ina Kay, which was ridden by Denuison, was ordered refused for the remainder of the meeting. I Edward W. Moore lias taken over a two-year-old colt by Thrush and a three-year-old filly for Irving M. Whoatcroft. The two have been in Kentucky all summer under the care of "Dod" Patterson. Mr. Moore expects further additions to his stable in several horses that have been racing and on which Mr. Whoatcroft holds an option. The stuke engagements of Hauberk have been transferred by W. R. Coe to J. F. Sweeney. The latter purchased the horse from Mr. Coe several weeks ago. Andrew OS. Blakeloy, acting for A. A. Reilly, president of the Victoria Oil Co., has purchased from J. "White the three-year-old Traction. The latter is a brother to Transit, Carlton G. and others. IJlakeley intends racing a stable at New Orleans and will ship his entire string to the Crescent City at the conclusion of the Howie meeting. A Henry Tligginson has purchased the jumper AVhite Metal from J. 13. Davis and will use him as a hunter. The horse will be shipped to Monk-ton, Md., where lie will be limited. Jos. E. Davis went to Monkton this morning to follow the hounds with the Harford County Pack on his old racer, OBoar. Harry J.
