AUSPICIOUS BEGINNING AT TIJUANA. San Diego, Cal.. November 11. The Lower California Jockey Club opened its hundred day winter meeting today, before a crowd of five thousand, with perfect racing weather prevailing. The track was fast. Twelve bookmakers laid the odds and speculation was brisk. Roy Offut was leading the ring once more, but Jack Atkin. Johnny Lewis and William Kyne kept pace with him. Jockey E. Tapliu was an arrival here this morning. However, he will not begin riding for a day or two. George W. Billermans Maud Bacon won the two-year-old race in the closing strides. Rol-liu Laird led right up to the paddock gate, then tired badly. Gladiola, the Wingfield filly, was outpaced in the early running, but closed a gap resolutely. Maud Bacon ran the five-eighths in 1:00. She was rather despised in the betting and drifted back until 3 to 1 went begging.
