IN 1915 DID IN THE RACING- OF THE PRESENT YEAR f 4 It must be said that, in the main, the high-priced yearlings sold at auction in 1915 proved failures in the racing of 1910. Not all were such. Midway more than repaid his purchase price and could now be sold for a large sum. Ticket, Tragedy, First Ballot, Auriga, Courtship and Battle Abbey all cost ,000 or more and all won in excess of their cost. The real bargains were such as Tom McTaggart, bought for 1916.sh00 and winner of S0.2S0; Koh-i-noor, which cost and won 1916.sh,0-15; Fan G.. bought for S300 and winner of ,0S1; Lucile P., bought for 100 and winner of ,308, and others returning as great or greater profits in proportion to their cost. The one outstanding failure of the year was Mr. John San-fords Meteorite, which returned 0 on account of the 2,500 given for liim. His costly stable mate, Folk Lore, did even worse. Inspection of the table below will reveal that seven two-year-olds sold for ,000 or more made good, compared with forty which did not.
