JUAREZ BEGINS TO DRAW i LARGEST CROWD OF THE MEETING IN ATTENDANCE TO VIEW THE RACING. 2 Joe Blair Wins at Last and Gains a New Owner Thereby Idle Days of Nest Two Weeks To Bo Tuesdays. El Paso. Tex., December 17. The biggest Sunday ! crowd that has been seen at the Juarez track this year was on hand to witness todays racing. This : was despite the fact that a high wind prevailed, i making it more or less disagreeable to be out in the open, and also lessening the time scored in the races. . But for the weather, it is believed there would have 1 been a record attendance. The public appears pleased with the mutuel form of wagering. In the three days that the machines have been in operation the betting lias been heavier than at any ; previous time this year. A feature of the sport was the rather lucky victory of Thirst in the second race. Favorite in the betting the Wallhauser filly appeared hopelessly shut off just before the turn into the stretch, but jockcy Mclntyre found a small opening and managed to get through. After that the race was all over, Thirst coming on and winning by four lengths from Lycia. In the opening race, Kay Spence lost his good sprinter, Joe Blair, after the latter had shown that he hopelessly outclassed his opponents by winning all the way by several lengths. The five-year-old son of Bonnie Joe Miss Blair was bid up from 00 to 25 by J. M. Shilling and went to the hitters barn. Joe Blair began well and nothing else got close to him. Moiler was nearest to him in the early running, but fell back and Belie Bird came fast in the closing strides and took second place away from Grays Favorite. The management announces that the idle days next week and the week after, because of Christmas and New Years coming on Monday, will be on Tuesday of each of these weeks. Colonel Matt Winn will depart for Louisville within a day or two to spend Christmas with relatives and friends, but will make sure before his departure that a good holiday card will be provided for the races on Monday. Joe Stevens will shortly leave for New York. ; The date for the Texas Futurity has been set for December 2S.
