Sixteen boxes have been added to the grandstand at the New Orleans track. They were put in directly back of the judges stand. Jockey Lowder, who has been with the E. R. Bradley horses at Charleston. S. C during the early winter, will ride at New Orleans for W. Hurley. Woodman Bros. Sparkler, which caused a sensation by defeating Bringhurst at Latonia last July, is at New Orleans for a try at some of the winter purses. On account of the new tax on race tracks in the Province of Quebec the six-day ice race meeting, scheduled to begin January 18 at Montreal, has been called off. Ambrose Clark has eight of his recently -imported horses at the Pimlieo track, along with others of his string. They will winter there and be prepared for the opening of the Maryland season. Work on the new stables at Belmont Park has been delayed by unfavorable weather. When they are completed this track will be provided with 1,038 stalls, or accommodations for 800 horses. The Irish Bloodstock Agency of Dublin has purchased in Ireland for exportation to Canada the following Irish horses: The steeplechasers Never Fear winner of the Galway Plate and Royal Spinner; the flat race horses Iron Cross 2. Annie Kdgar 2, Opera Class 3, Bachelors Bliss 2 and Bachelor*! Blend 4, as well as Kilcraney, a brown yearling filly by Tredennis — Innocency. Horsemen at New Orleans have sent an invitation to President H. P. Headley and Secretary Thomas B. Cromwell of the Thoroughbred Horse Association to visit New Orleans during the race meeting. Mack Garner on Sir Richard and C. Hunt on Hoc-nir quarreled during the running of the handicap at Juarez, Friday. Garner deliberately carried Hocnir to the middle of the track, and the chances of both horses were ruined in the race won by Trap-poid. After the race, owner Spence also had some sharp words with Bum, As the result of this race and two others during the day, in which Garner was charged with roughing it, he was set down for five days. Eleven nominations for the Futurity of 1919 have been received by Racing Secretary McL. Earlocker from England. Walter S. Heather of Rugby has named eleven mares. Seven of them are in foal to Heliotrope, Mr. Heathers best sire. The yearlings recently purchased by H. C. Hallenbeck came from Mr. Heathers farm and a number of them are out of the mares which make up the entries from England. The mares, whose produce Mr. Heather has named, are: Aloquin. Purple Light. Appicross, Black Bess, Dead Heat. Huttons System, Irish Lullaby, Minden, Seisdon Princess, Stray Moments and Violet Light.
