NEW ZEALANDERS INSPIRE RESPECT. New Zealand owners raided the big track of Australia last year with such excellent results as to load the Sydney Referee to say: "With good reason New Zealanders are rejoicing over the success of their horses in Australia this spring. Well, a Melbourne cup and a couple of weight for age races with Sasanof, an Australian Jockey Club Derby with Kilboy. hurdle races with Kooya and Master Regel. a steeplechase with Okai-hau, and wins by Zuland and Pee which was unlucky not to have done better proved the New Zealanders quite up to our standard. For a long time everything from New Zealand received particular attention from our handicappers. but recently they have received more kindly treatment. However, they are in future again likely to be treated with slightly exaggerated respect, more especially if The Toff should beat Sasanof or Kilboy in any three-year-old or weight for age races in which they happen to meet in New Zealand."
