SHOWERY WEATHER AT HOT SPRINGS. Has Little Effect on Attendance at Oaklawn — Jockeys McCabe and Troise Punished. Hot Springs. Ark.. March 13.— Brisk showers developed in these parts this afternoon and some of the racing was done while the rain fell. The attendance, however, was of former good proportions and. as the track remained firm, the sport was interesting. The card on the whole was devoid of any feature, the claiming handicap, in which the starters were entered for S1.21K, l eing regarded as the principal offering. It furnished a rattling finish, Buzz Around triumphing over the old stager Brian Boru, by a scant neck after a spirited stretch drive. Jack Reeves, the odds-on favorite, landing third. The latter would have been a more serious factor but for being a sufferer by the interfering tactics of Oourley. astride Thanksgiving, who bumped his mount repeatedly against Jack Reeves, causing him to lose his stride. Thirty -two layers were again in line and they were k"pt active during the day quoting prices and accepting wagers. The talent were fairly successful during the day and landed on most of the winners. The success of Dr. Prather in the opener gave the layers a stiff set back and they did not benefit much by the victory of Benjamin in the second. Haadfafl was a confidently backed favorite and Buzz Around was likewise given sesious attention, though Jack Reeves absorbed the big backing. Apprenticeship of Jockey Lykes Expires. Jockey Lykes. who rode his first winner last year on King Radford, had his apprenticeship expire this afternoon. The new arrivals today included Otto Stifel of St. Louis. William A. Pinkerton. head of the well-known detective bureau, and Chief of Police James Reynolds of New Orleans. Jockey Cooper has accepted an engagement to ride for Barry Littlejohn in Canada this season. Trainer John Bovvers sent Leochares five-eighths this morning, in 1 :01 easily. There is an effort on to bring him and Old Rosebud together, but this seems rather a remote possibility. F.ncouragiiig advices regards the possibility of a racing law being enacted during this session of the legislature of Missouri continues. It is said that the measure might come up in the next day or two for final decision. Jockey Troise was suspended for three days by the judges for rough riding in the closing race. Jockey J. McCabe was sus|x-iided for four days by the starter for disobedience at the post.
